Is your radiator clean? Alot of times mud will cake up in the back of the radiator where you can't see it and cause it to over heat.

Back flush the entire cooling system including the engines cooling system, not just the radiator. change your fluid, test or replace your radiator cap, clean the fins of the radiator with your garden hose. Make sure your fan is coming on before your over heat light comes on. if your fan does't come on then check the connection to the temp sensor. The reason a cap was suggested is because if your your system isn't pressurized properly it can't cool the engine as well. If your fan doesn't come on and you have a good connection to the temp sensor then the check if your fan is bad you can pull the plug off the temp sensor and connect the two wires in the connector using a paper clip or something like that, if your fan runs you've got a bad temp sensor. They also make products that are supposed to help the coolant work better but that you'd be something you'd do after the problem is fixed. Spray the heck out of the radiator front and back, don't be afraid to get her wet.

Alot of times mud and muck gets in the fan and will cause just enough friction to cause it to stop turning. This is why it is important to clean the bike fully after every ride especially when you are in the mud.

From expierience, as others have "said" flush radiator way good. I thought mine was clean, but every trail ride I got the HOT light. finally went crazy with hose and pressure washer(not to much pressre ) and cleaned my "clean" radiator .Put 196 miles on it last weekend temps in mid 70s no problem. Also after cleaning radiator really good run RED LINE water wetter or similar product in radiator(High Lifter sells it also} I have used this in my Wheeling truck and it works. One more thing I have an 04 700 and cut the plastic grill guard out with a jig saw! No more over heat for me. good luck

another thing I just thought of -- I got this from my most xcellent dealer (avenue sport&leisure) shake the crap out of your quad! Lift one side way up 'almost sideways and shake it then do the other side ., Dealer says they have seen air bubbles get stuck in the cooling system. ya never know

I have had this happen several times. First time was due to the fact that I hadn't properly cleaned the rad. I clean it before and after every ride now (just to be sure!), but I still can't go on long rides if there is mud, or water followed by dust. I have had to replace the pump impeller after the bad overheat episodes. This last time, I drained and refilled with blue ice, gutted the thermostat, and wired the fan to be always on. I still had to stop mid ride and borrow someones garden hose to clean it out.... I would like a radiator relocate mod
