Default Shifting from low to high gear

Riding today i was wondering if you can safely shift from low gear to high gear without having to come to a complete stop every time? Can you shift on the fly? It's a 04.5 sportsman 500 h.o.
what do you think? Thanks

you need to push the footbrake when you shift from low to high, thats telling you that you should be stopped

try it and see how much it grinds

I still stop to shift, but I modified mine where you dont have to push the foot brake. That gets old if you get into some sticky situations where you are standing on the left side floorboards.

You are absolutely right, and when it gets hairy, and you have to shift from low to reverse or vice versa....you dont want to have to put your foot on that lever

I have a feeling that if I were standing on the left floorboard, the machine is not likely to be in a position where it would roll away if I didn't shift it into Park.

When you shift from Lo-Hi or vice versa going too fast you get that same clunking clutch noise you get when you shift into reverse while still going forwards. (Hey, it happens.)
