2001 Trail Blazer 250....


When I push down the foot brake, it barely stops the quad, and I have to push that pedel all the way hard.....

also... the brake light doesnt work when I use the foot brake, just when i use the hand brake....

so....

any ideas???

The foot brake is like an emergency brake if the hand brake fails its not really ment to stop the atv by itself. You also could have a little air in your brake line. Your brake light will not work with your foot brake only the hand brake makes the brake light come on.

Yea the hand brake controls front and rear and the foot brake is just for the rear. You might want to look in your manual but I pretty sure you use DOT 3 brake fluid.

 

Don't try to bleed the brakes. If your hand brake works fine there is no air in the lines.

If you don't know what you are doing you will screw everything up and you will be in a hell of a mess.

ok.. i got one a few weeks ago, tore it all down and put it back together... how the heck do the mudd flap things go ?? smooth side towards the tire? im confused...

 

I had a 2002- 330 Trail boss doing the same thing.

On the rear caliper it had a bleeder screw for the front brakes & another bleeder screw for the emergency rear brake. I coild not get the rear to bleed.

I talke to a couple of guys that had the same problem & they told me to raise the back of the atv up & put the back wheels on the work bench & the front of the atv was nose down, I then bled the rear bleeder screw & presto the air came out & has worked since.

 

What a load of BS.

You can call it BS but it worked on my Trailboss. The guys I asked about this at the local Polaris shop said that this would work becuase they had to do it on Scramblers in the past.

It is worth a try & it is free if it works. In your eyes it might be BS but I experienced this so I really do not care what you think. I am just trying to offer a solution to the problem.

 

This is a common problem. It comes from using the brake too much. It will loosen up so you have to readjust every once in a while. It should only be used under emergency situations. Like if you are driving with one hand in the brush and cant get to your hand brake. The hand brake will still control your rear so if the foot is not working that doesnt mean your back brakes are not working. The foot brake is not really needed at all.

I wouldnt bleed the brakes if i where you. That would be a waste of time and brake fluid. Readjust the foot brake and it will work again. If there were air in the lines you would be able to tell!!!
Whats so hard about bleeding brakes anyways cornbread. How can you screw something up? Unless you are retarded i dont see how. The only thing that could happen is a wasted amount of brake fluid from spilling it on the floor.
