Default 2005 700 EFI

I am new to the forum and have a question for you guys. I have a 2005 Sportsman 700 efi which has 185 miles on it and 44 hrs. Last weekend I took it out for it's "first " real full day of riding. It was very dusty riding all day. By the end of the day the idle had dropped down to under 900 rpm's when it usually purrs at about 1150. I took out the K&N air filter because it appeared clogged from all the dust. I put the stock one back to try to increase the airflow but it only raised the rpm's to around 950. Has anyone ever had this problem? Is there a idle adjustment on the EFI's?

hang on man...you already answered yourself

K&N's are not well suited for dusty conditions...so stay with the stocker or a foam replacement during summer months

the idle likely dropped because of contaminates in the thrrot body...pull the a/f and look in there...it should be damn clean...if not clean it out and try again

I've seen it more than once with the EFI machines

RacinJason, thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.

Did it have issues because of the K&N clogging up? If it did and the stocker changed it, why not do the same thing with the stocker and see how well it performs? Will the stocker outperform the K&N in all conditions or just certain? Would the stocker have the same issues if he had ridden it like he did with the K&N?

That sure is a lot of slow ridding! 4mph for 44 hrs avg.

encorebilly....most of my hours were accumulated snow plowing last winter. I only rode it all day once. Mostly just a short ride here and there. Any idea if there is an idle adjustment on the efi's? Oh yea, I commend you on your math.

I had the same problem on a recent dice run. Covered 30 miles in 6 hours, that's 5mph for the mathematically challenged. But after subtracting all the beer and wiz stops, I probably covered it in a hour and a half

The AARP magazine featured a senator who wanted to filibuster a bill. He would put a cathether and have a jug of water there. You could subtract the whiz stops and strap a keg of beer on the machine.

RacinJason.........Just wanted to tell ya you were 100% right. Cleaned out the throttle body with some throttle plate and intake cleaner by 3M. I sprayed it in the throttle body, let it sit for about 15 seconds then cleaned it good with a q-tip. Now it's purring again at 1150 rpm's. Thanks again.
