Motion Pro Twist Throttle Install for 05 800 EFI
#1
They sent me everything but the twist throttle so I thought I'd get started till the backorder came in. This was so new that they didn't have a kit yet. They didn't really know what parts were required so we agreed that I would be a guinea pig for them. The install went well and I left the thumb throttle there and started it up. It idled and all that. Tried to rev it and it died. WTF? Several times with the same result too. Fortunately I remembered that there was a switch they would give me for the 4X4 selector and that the manual said that Polaris had made some sort of safety thingy there which made me wonder. Took out the plug going to the throttle unit and it ran well and revved up too. Put their switch on and it was able to go into AWD mode on command. Took me two hours because I didn't know what I was doing and decided to have a few cold ones to think about how to make it work and then a few more till I got everything assembled.
I have used a throttle by them on my 03 Rincon and loved it. I would recommend the MP unit. The last part would the the twist throttle itself but that should be relatively easy. All in all, I would say it was a great unit to install. If I busted my butt on it I think I could have got the install to an hour or less.

I ordered it directly from Motion Pro. The man to speak to is Larry. 650-594-9600. It cost me $68.08
Breakdowns are as follows:
01-0056 CR-COMP Throttle 15.00
01-1018 Cable 19.90
11-0033 4WD Switch 24.90
And of course there is the shipping
If you are planning to do this, contact me first. Your unit will have the safety switch which you must disable or you will not be able to make it rev higher than idle. There is a way for you do do this. It involves keeping the throttle box in place and with that, you won't need the 4WD Switch. I'll talk you thru it if you are going to do this.
As to the pricing, I am not sure. Talk to Larry. He mentioned that he might be able to swing a break. I don't know if he extends that to you too since I am the tester and giving him feedback. Also, since they charge more than a retailer, the break might work out to be the same. Again, not sure.

To use your own housing, pry the top of the housing off and take the screw out that is holding the guts and the cable. Remove the wire and seal them up. Remove everything and close it up again. Plug off the holes for the cable and throttle if you like. If you don't the machine will not let you rev it up past idle.

Just think of your thumb throttle in place less the lever and the cable. I have no choice since I want to put my GPS unit on the handlebar so I need the space. The left one is pretty full as it is and viewing will be harder. If not, I would go with the stock system. I might be able to email you a pic of the unit itself so you can decide what it is you want if you tell me what your email is. I am aklim69@gmail.com
