Default POLARIS ????

Im looking for a a.t.v mid class like 350 too 450 ive been reading alot of belt slipage on the yamaha bruin`s and other models. only when they have anything to do with mud and water. Does polaris handle water well theres alot around the area i live mud and snow too. Also i rode a yamaha timber wolf 2x4 i guess thats a 250 class and i went through alot of mud and though 13-16 inches of water in the river by my house it did alot more then i thought it could for a 2x4 but i can seen were 4x4 would be great. I cant really deside which qaud company i should go with or even 2x4 or 4x4. I want a soild qaud and not alot of keep up on it. Ill use it for hunting and trail riding, and camping etc. The little timberwolf pushed along great im 5"10" 190 lbs. and i have noticed to 2x4 models are alot cheaper i could buy one for me and my girlfriend for one of the 4x4`s. but would a winch be a must if i got 2x4 i hear alot of talk that people go everywhere a 4x4 go`s on like the bayou 250 and the bruin 250 i guess that the same as the timberwolf. This will be my first quad.

Most Polaris quads handle deep water well without the belt slipping as long as you go sort of slow. If you hit a hole of water really fast it could splash into the vent causeing the belt to slip.

Polaris has some very promising looking midsized quads. I actually like the looks of the new Hawkeye and it comes in 4X4 and 4X2. I also considered the Trail Boss when I bought my son his Trail Blazer. In my experience, the Polaris quads do a very good job in mud and water. A lot of people like the Honda mid sized as well as the BRP Outlander 400. The Outlander has gotten excellent reviews. We had a 2005 Sportsman 400 that, other than being a bit underpowered, rode great and handled the terraign well.

In what ways do you mean under powered for like hauling stuff. I rode my friends outlander 400 its pretty fast. I feel like we are moving into an age were everyone wants a V8 in there qaud. I read in a qaud magazine that the kawasaki brute force was kind of a dog compared to the polaris 800. I laugh because why do they keep getting bigger and bigger. Buy a truck right ? whats next turbo deisels ?
Please explain so i know if i need to break the bank to be happy.

Ha! Ha! You are right. But, it's our own fault. We keep wanting more and more (OK, I do).

The SP400s are a little heavy for the power from a torque standpoint. Mostpeople trail riding will not top it out on the trails. I wore through ramp buttons once, i think, because it just strained the powertrain to climb hills and pull. Otherwise, it is a great quad. I think the 500s are a better overall quad though.

Definitely ride em' both and see which you like. If you are looking at the Brute Force, you may want to consider a SP700EFI too. There are some great deals on 05s to be had with double warranty.

You are looking at great machines regardless of brand. Whichever way you go, make sure and post some pics.

Good luck!!

the brute force is deffently a wild ride, and when i say wild, dont take it lightly, as i thas the very worst suspention ever and feels like you could tip it while driving like your grandma. other then that though, go kawi

id still keep looking into the 500 EFI though, its a GREAT motor, its very compairable to the Liberty (polaris) 700 Twin EFI motor in power
