Hello guys , new guy here....I have been a bit of a lurker since Im planning to purschase one of these quads. I would like your opinions and facts in help to which one I might want to buy. I have been looking into these models. And would greatly appreicate any feedback good or bad.

04 and up 500 HO Scrambler 4x4 (new bike), a nice used 2002 400 Scrambler 4x4 or

in the 2wd models a DS650 X, 04 + 500 Predator, a nice used 99-03 400 Trailblazer.

I have riden the 02 400 Scrambler and the 99- 03 400 Trailblazers both were completely stock and Ive heard you can get massive power out of the 2 strokers which is what Im looking for I like trail riding and all out power. I dont want something you have to constantly wrench on.

I have riden a 00 350 Banshee and had to be constantly wrenched on just about everytime it was riden dont want get myself into something like that.

Dont know much about the DS650 X ?

Everyone has been telling me to stay clear of the 2 strokers and stay with the newer 4 strokers. Thats why I have been looking into 4 strokers. I know Im not comparing apples and oranges here. I like to have the conveince of having 4wd over the 2wd. So this is more of what would be the most well rounded and fastest of the quads to get ?...Thanks

of your 4wd picks, i would take the 400 scrammy cuz u like to go fast and Hot Seat Performance makes some pretty wicked fast polaris hop up stuff

of your 2wd picks, i would choose the predator, the ds650 is mainly a dune machine and the last time i checked, there werent any dunes in KY!

however, if u pick a polaris, watch out for the radiator on the water cooled models which is low in the frame cuz it likes to collect mud and overheat the engine--not sure if thats the case with the scrammy or trailblazer but it is with the sportsmans

Hi. I would like to give you my opinion on a 2 wheel drive. I have both the ds650 and pred 500. Here's my story. The ds650 is big and 50lbs heavier than the pred at 450lbs. If you want super power and torqe the ds is the one, and this is why. My 03 pred has a 12.5-1 piston, head modd with 1mm bigger valves and bigger springs, bigger cams, and a pure sport pipe. The pred is very powerfull and fast. But my 03 ds650 baja is bone stock and is more impressive. You need to ride both, but if the pred is stock you will not be impressed compared to the ds. If you buy a ds650, make sure you buy the standard ds and not the baja "this is my opinion only" because the standard is about 30lbs or so lighter, at least compared to a 03 baja, it is even lighter compared to a baja x. Either way you go though they are both really good quads. If your not so crazy about power I would deff look at the suzuki z400, kawasaki kfx400, honda 400ex these are also really good quads and they perform really well. Well thats my imput- good luck with your decision. RUSS

Hey neighbor
Between the ones that you are considering I would rule out the DS650 they are too big for the trails but great on roads and dunes. Also the 400 Scrambler aka Trailblazer400 the require alot on TLC(maintanance) but they will fly the last one I had would run with the modded 660 Rapors but it needed to be maintaned alot.On the 500 4x4 Scrambler go with a 02 or 03 they still have the good rear suspension and all the other goodies that they remvoed in 04 and up.But if you want new go for the Scrammy or the Pred if you want to shift. If you would be interested in a small go fast Polaris PM me.

Hey Guys I really appreicate the honest feedback keep it coming. Im not biased to one quad over the next. You would be surprised of the beaches (sand) along the Ohio River Valleys and down at the Kentucky Lakes where alot of people ride and also old abandoned stripper miners. So I was told that as far as all out speed and not a expensive quad to look into the DS650 (look into the standard) thanks Russ !!. I dont mind shifting and working a clutch. The Scramblers I have riden are very comfortable to my size(6'3 223lbs) thats why I mentioned the DS650. I dont mind riding a 2wd I have friends that can get me out of a situation if it came up. I have riden a 400ex and z400 and they didnt feel comfortable especially if I wanted someone to ride along they didnt perform too bad but. The Scramblers seemed way more roomie for a extra rider and more power at hand. Im keeping all options open here Im not ruling out any other models so if any lurkers know of something that would suit me better Im all ears here.

Please correct me if Im wrong here ftwflh , but I have been told the 04 + 500 HO Scramblers are the fastest stock Scramblers out of Polaris. What are differences that has changed? This might lead me more into a nice used Quad and save some money.

hey amn i no allot of ppl will tell you somthing different. The truth is it all depends on what type of riding you will do. If you want a quad for speed and fun but is dependible and can get you out of a sitation then go woth the 4x4 scrammy. If you want one foe speed and jumps and racin more then go with the preditor. It all depends on what you like, what you want, and what you will do/where you will ride. I myself would go with the scrammy. They are FAST, easy to ride, dependible, and just an all around great quad. You have sport, sportsmen all in one quad. They are great. Good lick man.

Hey Thanks Bret, I know everyone will tell me something completely different.I will be riding it mainly for trail riding a occasional jump or two. I have narrowed it down to either A: newer or slightly used 500 Scrambler 4X4 or B: DS650. I will say I love polaris for how easy they are to ride and the comfort of the quads. So I am definatly leaning more towards Polaris then anything. But if someone wants to peek my interests elsewhere please let me know.

THere is no differance that I know of in any of the newer 500 Scramblers that would make them any faster.I do know that they dont come with the FOX rear shock, heavy duty handle bars with a bar pad,or arear hitch.

if you like the scrambler and you want to go fast i would go with a 400. you don't have to wrench on them like a banshee. if you get a 500 scrambler stock and then decide it's not fast enough for you your gonna spend a lot more money to make it fast and it will never be as fast as a modded 400. your best bet would be to find one that's allready been modded. for trail riding you want a trail ported 400. race ported is a little too much for trails in my opinion. the line between getting a little extra umph to climb a hill and pulling the wheels off the ground on the race port is pretty fine.

I have had both 500 Scrammy and a 400 and the 500 isnt as fast but requires alot less maintanance. You are always checking and changing coutnerbalance oil and worrying with jetting on a 400.But the 500 has tons of lowend and a decent topend.Neither are true sport quads but both are the best of both worlds.....sport and ute.
