Default Trailblazer blues

The starter is definitely bad on this 2000 trailblazer. No problem diagnosing that. But havin' trouble gettin' to the dang thang. Ive decided im not going to try and pull clutches.. would like to see it just drop out of the bottom if possible. Ive read, that too get the whole starter loose, atleast on some polarises, you will end having to take off the starter case, and take out two bolts. So thats the direction i was going in until after i took off the thin black metal, covering the wheel that the recoil rope is on i figured out that i didnt know how to get any further. It looks to me that i need too take off the plastic wheel before the case will come off. If so, how......,...if not, that case doesnt seem to be budging a bit for me. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
