Weetoots, Thats what is says in the service manual and I quote...."WARNING It is important that the front and rear axle drive ratio and tire size are not changed. Changing this ratio will cause erratic engagemaent, which could result in a loss of vehicle control and serios injury or death"

Im sure it throws the system off, depending on what ratios you change and by how much will dictate its effects. Going one way to far the system may be always be locked and going the other direction it may rarely lock. I dont know what you could get away with....if any.

Also I edited the first post and removed the incorrect info of the front tire spinning faster then the rears. My intentions here are most definitely not to give bogus information out. GJ

It works !!! Thank you to all for the excellent information you provided. I replaced the coils which came with the wiring and only cost $19.00 each. One additional thing to consider if you are having a similar problem - I found that the positioning of the coil is very important. At first the magnetism was not strong enough to engage the hubs because I had taped the race that goes over the coil in to far. When I brought it back out the magnetism was strong enough to create the drag on the armature and to allow the hubs to engage. Thanks again !!!
