I did a search and saw someone speaking about HPD offering a race-chassis for the 400 motor. Is there any truth in this? Will it really save a lot of weight? Price? A-arms in front instead of Macs?

Thanks. It's diet time for my Scrambler.

The most expensive one is the 15k$ one. If I am not mistaken, the 15K one comes w/ the built motor as well. They offer two more for somewhere in the 10k and 5k neighborhoods as well. Still an outragous price.

Call HPD and see if they will sell you just a frame. I believe that all these frames they are offering are more than "JUST" the frame itself.

I have read article`s in Dirtwheels about one but I thought it was for the Sport 2wd used as a motocrosser. I`m sure they could make it work for a 4wd without too much trouble. $15 K seems like a lot I would guess closer to the $5 K range even at that it probably doesn`t include A-arms, swing arm, steering stem and other necessary things like that. I agree the Scramblers need a diet but getting them down to the 450 lb range would take quite a bit of money.

I also wonder if the end result would justify the means to get there. I`m not sure it would be twice as good.

I seem to remember reading somewhere about a light weight "frame only" for about $2K. I'll try to remember where I'd seen it...

the 2wd 400 scrambler is down to 481 pounds now for 2001, that isnt as bad as it has been is it? it isnt so much extra weight that it will stop me from getting one in the spring.

You'll love it. Those destined for ultra-light weight Scramblers are either racing or above average enthusiasts. For the majority of us riders, it's heavier than the true sport bikes but still a blast to ride. Don't let the weight keep you from getting a great bike.

I called HPD and the prices are 5, 11 and 15 grand. I think the frame kits are to make the 400 motor fit into a race worthy chassis. I don't think you can just swithch frames from stock to HPD...
