well, the 03's and 04's were the 'worst' of the bunch as far as frames and reliability, there the fastest out of all of them for some reason. the Troy Lee was introduced in 2004 with a close ratio gearbox.
the 05's were built with an upgraded frame with built in gusset points for strength, and the Troy Lee model was discontinued and the Troy Lee Designs introduced which featured Fox Shocks with resiviors, better tires, and the Close Ratio Gearbox. the 2005 Limited Edition was also introduced featureing the Stadard ratio gearbox, Fox shocks with resivoirs and a White brothers E-Series exhaust.
the 06's are the best yet with the Standard model now featureing Fox Shocks and Maxxis tires. the Troy Lee Designs model features remain the same, and the 2006 Limited Edition (as you can see if you click my camera) features Matt Smiley edition plastics, Close Ratio Gearbox, Fox Podium X shocks, and a White bros E-series exhaust.

Just to clarify, the 2004 TLD did not have the close ratio gear box, the 05 did which may have been introduced in 2004. The 03's had just a little longer swingarm, shortened for 04 and up. 03's I think had the most frame problems. They are all excellent. I am lucky enough to have an 06 LE, love it.
