Default overheating?

My 05 700 flashed hot check engine. After i rode it for about 10 minutes on nothing but a tilled corn field. My fan ran for ever. where can i check to see if something is clogged up? i have a warn winch installed on the front. any easy ways to clean out the radiator? plus i have not done the break in oil change...

Check the radiator front AND rear for clogged pores, mud can get packed in the fins on the rear too.
The outter screen can be removed too if you dont know.

Do the 20 hour oil change /check up but i doubt that's your problem.

Definately check the rad WELL for being clogged ecspecially in back toward the engine. There is no easy way that I have found to clean the rad. I removed mine completly, soaked it overnite in a large can. Next day pressure washed / blew with compressed air frm both sides cause was so plugged. Seemed to be packed in pretty well against the shroud in back. A note on pressure washers make sure is on wide fan AND do not spray at an angle as it is fairly easy to bend the fins.

definitely check as the guys said...look closely at the radiator....if you lift the machine up some its easier to look at, but you should be able to see in daylight from the rear side, wheel well area....its most likely your problem if you were running in mud....also as Jim said, check your oil and make sure your level is right

Cleaning your radiator front and rear is a lot easier with the right tool. Twice a year I remove the fan and fan shroud from ours to give the back of the radiator a thorough cleaning. Four bolts removes the fan, another four removes the shroud. Don't try to cheat and just remove the shroud with the fan still attached. It won't come out and you'll end up bending some radiator fins in the process.

Default overheating?

Just saw your post RidePolaris, this may not be your situation but I just went through a problem with my 04.5 SP500H.O. The battery kept going dead when sitting, and sometimes I would start it after sitting for days and the engine fan would immediately come on and the display would flash the HOT warning. Then the fan started coming on with the key and engine both off. Turns out there was a recall on certain bikes for the ECM. Mine wasn't one of the serial numbers that was supposed to be affected, but the dealer changed mine out anyway and it's been good- no more problems. I don't know what years or models were part of the recall cause I didn't get a notice- my dealer told me about it. So if anyone runs into these problems it's something to look into.
