Default 04 sp 600 sputtering at cold startup

sometimes when i start my 600 up when it's cold it sputters and backfires. this happens even aftyer it warms up. the only way to make it go away is run it hard for about ten minutes then it clears up. it doesn't happen every time. but it does take for ever for it to warm up to the point where it doesn't fall on it's face when you hit the throttle. could it maybe have been jetted for a different climate or is there probably something wrong with the carb. it's done this from the day i bought it but i figured maybe it was just cold natured. oh yeah, it does this no matter what the temp outside is.

Ya, the carb'ed twins are cold blooded. You just have to give it time to warm-up. Your 04 may be early in the production cycle and had not received the "cold weather carb update kit" it helps in cold weather and gives better throttle response in any weather.

Polaris issued a "Technical Service Bulletin" to address the cold start problem but since your from Kentucky, your dealer probably has never heard of it or won't work with you since it's not a recall. If your carb does'nt have it, it's an easy DIY, get ahold of the TSB and order the parts, instructions are in the TSB. If you have the upgrade, you have to give it time to warm-up.

I have the carb up-grade and use a block heater in the winter and it really helps.

Good luck.
