Trying to help a friend out with a trailblazer that he had stuck in his garage for about two years. After figuring out why it wasn't firing (ETC was making contact)...we still can't get it to crank...it's just not getting gas through the carb.

So my idea was to take the carb off and clean it out best I could...two problems.

1.) I can't seem to get the cap off that the throttle cable comes in two...I can tell that it is spring load...just afraid I'm gonna mess something up. Any ideas? What is the best way to take this off properly.

2.) Once I get this off...what is the best way to thoroughly clean the carb?

Any help would be greatly appreciate!

P.S. Thank you all for this forum...with out this site, I would never have found out about the ETC. That guy was making contact, and sure enough it would not fire...just didn't know that such a thing existed. Thanks again!

 

i always just twisted the cap of with chanel locks. the spring in there is just to push the slide back down.

when you get it off take the bowl off and clean it real good with carb cleaner you prob have build up in the bowl from it sitting it will be like thick varnish in there. then take and spray the cleaner through all the jets and venturies "any hloes you see" put it back together and you will be good to go.
ps make sure the float is moving properly the varnish will build up there to and i would get a new fuel filter and drain all the old fuel out while you have it apart and put in new. also get a new spark plug.

 

Thanks...that done it...It looks like the spring got twisted up a little.

I don't think a carburetor is supposed to look like this. It's been sitting up for about two years. The inside was black and gunked up. Do you think soaking it in carb cleaner will free everything up (the floats don't move at all)?...I'll leave it soaking for a couple of days and check it again.

Any ideas???

hi, i have a trailblazer 250 (2003). Before i put it away in the garage for the winter, it ran excellent! i just took it out today and i was able to start it, but it would only idle..if i gave it gas it would stall, if i pulled the choke it, it would let me rev it a little. Also, gas was pouring out of the clear hose on to the ground. I filled the tank up with new gas and put a little bit of carb cleaner in with the gas. The gas stopped pouring out the hose but it still wont let me do anything but idle. I noticed there was a screw cap on the top of the carb....i unscrewed it..but never took the top off....wasnt sure if i was going to ruin it....so i screwed it back on. Can anyone advise a novice on this problem..after reading everything im suspecting the carb got junked up over the winter. Should i try to clean the carb, and if so, how???? thank you! unless anybody here at the jersey shore wants to come over and ill pay them to do it!!LOL

 

Yep...Been there done that! Thanks for the guys on this site for fixing that problem.

Hopefully the link below will help you get that straightened out...it sounds like your pilot jet is stopped up...the link will explain why and how to fix it.
