Default 1000cc scrambler

i am thinking of doing a little moddifications to my scrambler that i was going to sell. i have thought of doing this before bet never had the money to do it. i was planing on putting a snowmobile motor in it. the problems were that it would run hot in the summer. another is that the torque pipes on the 2-strokes would require the frame to be longer. then i looked at the yamaha 1000 4cly four stroke that is in the rx-1 snowmoobile about 140+ hp. it looks like the perfict engine, fuel injected. now i am wondering how hard it would be to do. i would also have to sell the scrambler engine that has 7 hours on it, tranny, all electrical stuff, all the 4x4 stuff, and more. anyone have any advice to give? want to buy anything?. i am not planing to do it right now but hopfully soon.

There is someone here that did that just this year. He streached the frame and did all kinds of fabrication. Maybe someone will chime in and know who it was.

I have some pictures in my profile page. I did have to stretch the frame out 16" to get the pipes to fit. I used a jackshaft and hooked up the tranny in the quad on mine. This left me with reverse gear. I had to use a goodyear eagle pd drive belt from the jackshaft to the tranny because of the high RPM's the motor is turning. I used the sled clutches on the rest of the drive system. I used the engine from a polaris snowmobile and alll the wiring colors matched so it was pretty easy to hook up electrically. I have over 100 pictures of the project from beginning to end if you would like to see any paticular phase of the project let me know and I can email them to you. Good luck it is a blast to ride.

ya i saw your pictures a few months ago. it looks great. i will not be using the transmission, i don't think that it would take the Hp of the 1000. maby i wouldn't have to streach the frame.

I have been thinking... on the concentric model 4x4 scrambler transmissions, foward gear is- gear driven. Where as the 2wd trans are chain driven. I would think that the 4x4 trany could stand a lot more hp. It would weigh more than a jackshaft setup, and you wud have to make the sled secondary fit, but it would be REAL nice to be able to use original sprokets.

ya i have thought about that and it would probably run cooler than the sled engine, from what i see they are tall engines, but they might fit, i would not wan't to make the frame taller, it would be too much more work than i already have to do.
do any of yo know how tall the hayabusa engines are, maby a R1, gsxr 1000 or simmilar engines. i have looked on ebay and you can pick up a wrecked bike engine for about 1500-2000 dollars with everything included.
i am not in a hurry to build it because i also have a raptor to ride. i olny have a few hours after school to work on it and money is limmited to about 1500 for now until i start my trailor building bisnuss with a friend that will hopfully bring some money in.
thanks for the info. if you have anything else please write back.
