Default Jetting clarification

i just got home from a ride, and its almost black out, and i was curious about my new jetting, intake and exhuast tip i just put on and i looked down at my headers. now this is in pitch black after i rolled into the garage, but my headers, from the engine till they started curving back were red, not like pure red, you wouldent be able to see it durring the day time or low light. but this means im running too hot correct? and that means that theres too much air and not enough fuel correct? im running a 170 jet with the needle on the 4th slot. should i maybe go to a 175 jet, or play with my needle some?

my engine has a little stumble down low, even when the engine is hot, so i know my jetting isnt perfect. suggestions anyone?

Go with the dial a jet, just put one on my scrambler you would be able to take the lean out with it by just turning the dial. Works great no joke , best bang for your buck.

Sounds like you are very close on your jetting. Maybe a touch lean but very close. I would go to a 175 or maybe even a 180 and see what the plug tells you.

wild one, i dont plan on keeping this carburator longer than i have to, im just trying to make good use out of it for now.

turbo, when i first installed my jet kit i went with a 175 jet and i played with the needle moving it all the way to the top to the bottom, ect, but this was before i put my new down tip on my exhuast, which is considerably more free flowing than the plates that were on there at the time. when i get some time and when its nice out, i'll try the 175 jet and see were that takes me. i think 180 would be too big though, thats the largest jet they make for this carburator. after i get my new header, im probebly going to have to start looking for a new carb, haha

Hello, just visiting this forum as my wife has a TB250 and I come in here for info sometimes. I read your question about your header glowing and thought I would let you know of some of the other comments I had read on the Bomb forum about this issue. (1) A glowing pipe is not always a sign of wrong jetting. My DS with some mods shows that the jetting is dead on when reading the plugs. I never thought that my header glowed till I rode one night and sure enough a nice red glow. I searched the forum and found others reported the same thing. (2) Sometimes it can be a sign of a lean carb but it can also be a sign of a rich jetting. How is that. The unburnt fuel is released into the header then ignites. As stated before a good read on your plugs might be a better indicator of what jetting you need to be at. If you have to error one way or the other better rich than lean though, you might loose a little power but you will not burn a hole in your piston either. Try a search and include the Bomb forum as that is where I saw all the info. Good Luck PS, I wish the DS had reverse also.

I remember a post some time ago where glowing header pipes on the twins were discussed and it was determined that it was "normal". I think it was over on atvquadsquad.com. I wouldn't worry about it spyder6, just pay attention to the plugs.

with the bowl off the pilot jet is the smallest jet in there and shouldn't be a problem to change, just unscrew and be careful of other small pieces hiding in there. not sure if you need to go up or down but can't be too expensive either way, just a pain in the a$$. sorry I couldn't help more...

peace and Happy New Year!
