I am looking at buying a few things off of ebay, what else would need to be done to run these mods. A 39mm pwk carb from keihin, or should I get a stock bored carb instead. What do I need to use a 15 to 1 compression head. There is also a hot seat performance exhaust. I am planning on getting my engine rebuilt with a wiseco piston. I also have v-force reeds to put in it. My biggest question is whether or not I can use the 15 to 1 compression head or do i need to do major port work for that and which carb would be better the stock bored one is a bit cheaper than the keihin but the keihin does have a stock airbox adapter already on it.

I don't have a 400 Scrambler, but I do know 2-strokes. 15:1 compression is for alcohol. Don't even think of getting something like that, unless you're building an all out exclusive drag machine. Leave the high compression to the 4-stroke guys, you'll be much happier & so will your engine. Have the cylinder bored .040 & a Wiseco Pro-Lite piston installed you'll be plenty satisfied.

For 2'stroke mods, the V-Force reeds are a great start, the pipe is also a great choice. Also don't forget a clutch kit. All the extra power is usless if you can't get it to the ground. The carb question I'll leave to the 400 Scrammy gurus, because I don't know anything about those carbs.

I also checked out the pipe on eBay. It looks like it has some surface rust, but the price is right for a full system. I'd jump all over the Buy It Now. A little time with a wire wheel on a power drill & a can of high heat black paint & she'll look like new.

I have the items listed in my sig. I can tell you that the 39 PWK is a great carb!! It works well with my setup!

I have the 12:1 head also which works nicely on pump gas. That is a big plus to me.

Thanks for your responses. I did forget to mention it but yes i know that i will obviously need a clutch kit. I was just mainly wondering about the combinations of all of these and whether u guys think i should spend the extra money to get it ported while i get it rebuilt. Plus I know nothing about the carbs so i didnt know if a 39 was really a lot better than a stock bored or not because it will cost me a bit more.

THE 15 TO 1 CAN BE ALKY OR RACE GAS ITS A MINIMUIM OF 110 OCTANE. not yelling just left caps on. fixed now.

if your looking at just any 39pwk whihc can be had for cheap on ebay it most likly won;t work with the scrambler. I bought a 39pwk off ebay and after changing all the parts out I could have bought and HPD. the slide is the most expensive part that has to be correct you need a 7.0 or 6.5 slide. then you would need to by low and high speed jets, needle and needle valve and seat.

also make sure the bowl has overflows or its useless. the pwk has to be able to leak or it will just foul plugs and cause massive bogging/jetting issues.

What Conig said.
The PWK seams the way to go but you need the right setup.
I would get the porting done too , you will be happy.

I think 12:1 is about the limit and you will need a girdle and should have the cool head.

I would just do like i did unless you are going race mod. see below sig...

I would call Rick Ritter at RcR and talk to him too.

With the mods you are looking at a girdle kit is a must(even if you just port one)
Even if you dont get the ebay parts and you are going to do a topend I would do the girdle and get a trail port done and be ready for the mods. The Vforce reeds, pipe, clutch kit,and I would look around for a good 38mm flat slide Mikkuni for a carb.
I dont have a 400 at the monment but I have had a few mean ones

I have a 39PWK that doesn't have an over flow on the bottom of the bowl and it hasn't caused me any problems.
