Hey Genius, a little more info... The type of crosshead bearings that are being developed for consideration in use for the new 2 strokes, weigh a lot less than those similar crosshead bearings you see in those diesel engines that are the size of a house. You see those huge diesel's use crosshead bearings to eliminate the enormous transverse forces. And yes these bearings are big heavy and strong. They have to be. Because they absorb the transverse forces instead of it being applied to the piston and cylinder walls.
Now in smaller engines, like engines producing less than 10,000 hp, the transverse forces are tolerable. Because of this, a lighter weight bearing can be produced and used.

LOL.. gee I hope it weighs less. I would hate to put a 100 ton motor on my quad. Might have to bump up the air pressure in the tires abit

While you are undoubtedly entitled to you own opinion, I don't know why you must be so closed minded to new technology. To know, is to understand. And you obviously do not.

Since when is this new technology?? It was first used almost 100 years ago.. How is this new technology?

Well the basic technology of the bearings is not new. However they are not exactly the same, and are not being used for the same purpose. They are being incorporated into the "new technology"
It's kind of like looking at an ignition system on a car 50 years ago and comparing it to todays modern car ignitions. They both do the same thing, but they are quite a bit different.

I see, then explain to all of us how a crosshead bearing engine is going to create a higher HP, lower weight engine than say a typical 120 hp, 600 cc sled engine?

I assume your talking about a 600cc 2 stroke. And I didn't say it could. I have made no hp claims.
I have just been commenting on some information about the possible future of this new 2 stroke technolgy. I am not personally building or developing this technology. So I can not tell you if it will perform as good or better than todays 2 strokes. But from what I have read so far, it sounds like it will. Now keep in mind just because they are doing r&d on this design does not mean that this is what they are going to use. Some of the information that I have read has been fascinating though.

I would be more interested in your discussion if you presented any technical argument how this engine could even produce as much hp as the typical 600cc sled motor. But you haven't. On the other hand I have presented a technical argument why it will not produce as much power for equivalent weight and displacement. LOL.. your response is that I am not knowledgeable about the subject. Interesting point, but a pretty lame argument. Even this latest post is vague and without content.
