FMF on a 330
#1
I just bought an FMF silencer with a pipe from Rick for my 330tb. I should have it wed. I will post results on fit, finish and performance once installed. I talked to rick on the phone and he set me up with this. He was great to talk to and even remembered my name from the forum.

Well I installed the FMF silencer and RCR pipe from Rick and it sounds awsome. Nice deep rumble like a 4 stroke should sound like. Gave me better bottom and mid range power that I can actually feel. Top end I got about 2-3 mph faster. There is a hill by my house that is somewhat steep and it would start to struggle about 3/4 of the way up prior to the pipe and silencer. Now it spins the tires allt he way up and does not struggle at all. I also went with a little more agressive primary spring. The EPI red spring. It pulls harder off the line and mid range is great but on top it starts to drop off. The EPI pink had a more agressive top end. I need the midrange for climbing so the red works out good.
The epi pink would pull good but midrange going up hill would flatten out and speed would decrease.. I could only do about 35mph on a hill with a good incline up the road from me but with the red it would pull better and get about 42mph going up the hill. The pink on the top end I would get 52-53 mph on a straight and the red would do 50mph. I kept the red in because I need the midrange and the 2mph on top I really dont care about. I just dont like going up steep hills and knowing it would not have enough steam to make it. The silencer and pipe did make a nice difference. Gives me a little more confidence climbing hills.

Good job. I've been thinking about removing 6 disks on my WB to quiet it and see if it adds or subtracts power. Have you vented your airbox? And have you done anything to your secondary? Iv'e been thinking about changing the secondary to an HPD Violet set at 2-2.
I don't know how the FMF fits but you could put some heat reflecting tape on the plastic if the pipe sits closer to it than stock. I put some on mine for good measure - don't know if I had to though.
Have fun

Removing disks is supposed to quiet it down but you also lose power. I have a Polaris red secondary spring on 2-2 but looking to get a different one. The FMF sits a little closer but my plastic already had heat tape in that area. I have been keeping an eye on it. I dont know if I want to remove any disks yet because I love the way it sounds.

I have not vented my airbox because I do alot of creek riding and get into some deep water. Sometimes up past my racks. If i know im just riding trails I will take the snorkle off.

When I was testing springs on our 330 I tried a polaris white that is the same as the EPI red and I persoally liked it better than the pink but it was a little too much for my wifes liking and it is her bike. All she wanted was to keep up on the roads better.

It's nice to see a quality write up, complete with tech results and personal opinions good or bad.
These types of threads will indeed help someone. As I read the different threads I've come to see that 2manytoys and ftwflh always give up the really good stuff.

I've heard that removing disks may reduce power too. I've also heard that it actually has gained (on the 330) from removing disks. So I'll try it and see.
I have looked at many clutching threads and still can't see how to set my seconday to 2-2? if anyone can explain it please let me know.
Again, I want to try the HPD violet in the secondary while leaving my stiffer primary (it's like the EPI Red) in place. And what do you think I can expect perfomance wise going to this 2-2 set-up?
Thanks

I need to ring up EPI about the phoenix clutch kit . I am going to buy one . When I do this I need to buy the pink and a couple other EPI springs and scale them . I think from what I understand the EPI pink is a very close spring to the Dalton Blue .
The FMF pipe is a nice piece and a good value . It comes with a quiet core . It's construction has no performance advantages over the White Brothers , both mufflers will perfom well on a 325 / 330 .

Rick what kind of loss would I get by removing disks? I like the way it performs and sounds but may be a little loud for some of the places I ride but dont really want to lose performance.
