Last night my cooling fan came on after about 3hrs of the atv being turned off. I had to unplug the battery to stop it. This morning I connected the battery and the cooling fan came back on so I started the atv and the instrument panel shows hot, check engine but the engine wasn't even warm to the touch yet. Anybody have any suggestions what this is? It's a 2005 polaris 700 twin.

 

There is a recall due to this problem. Take it to your dealer, he'll have to replace the fan controller.

 

It still is wierd but i cleaned it up and hosed out the radiator and it seems to be working fine now. I took it out for a spin and warmed the engine up enough for the fan to come on and it turned off after a minute. I've got it parked in the garage so I can hear if it comes on again tonight.

 

seen this happen before i believe its the fan controller thats at fault dealer should know of this issue

 

I spoke to soon, it just came on, after about an hour so I guess I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. Thanks for the info on the controller, I mention that to them.

The Electronic Control Module also controls when the fan comes on. You may want your dealer to test this item also
