#1
If my engine i gone in my 400 I am considering changing the whole thing over to a 500 fourstroke. What is everything that would need to be done to the 400 in order to make the 500 engine work in it other then the motor and oil resivior and carb. I know they are pretty much identical but just wondering if it has been done at what is everything i would have to do?
thanks

aside from what you listed you would need fuel pump, a different cdi and ignition set up and to change over alot if wiring.
I looked into doing this one time but its alot cheaper to fix and even pimp a 400.
I am not aware of anyone doing this. when I started pricing stuff it was almost twice as much to fit a 50 motor and a loss of power depending on what you have done to the 400 or plan to do.

700r yes, please keep me informed because i am very interested. With the amount of people parting out bikes these days there seems to be a lot of the parts for cheap.
16polaris, I already have a 500 which is why i want another one. It has been a lot more reliable then the 400 a meets the needs i need it for better.
I have a YFZ450 and raptor for performance quads so thats not what i am looking for. I love the scrambler machines for the wife and mother who love to go trail riding and also for when i want to do some 4X4ing. There just an alround good machine.

I would just sell the 400 if you don't need it and buy a 500 to save money and headache. I have a 2005 Honda 450R modded out, so I know what you mean.

sparkster i don't have the engine yet, it will be in by friday or monday. the salvage yard is shipping just the motor first and then he said that i can ship back my 400 carb for the 500 carb, motor mounts for motormounts, ect, i will let you know in a coupple weeks on how it goes, when i get alll the parts
(was your 400 scrambler one of those wheelers that you wouldn't wan't to drive it farther than you could walk). the last time it blew a piston it took hours to pull it back through 1 foot of snow, steep long hills and mud, it was so hard for my dads grizz to pull it everywhere we just gave up on trails and pulled it on the road back to the truck
i will let you know how it goes!

he i just wanted to let you that i got the motor today. i was supose to get two packages but i only got one right now, the one with only the motor and exhaust. i called the salvage yard and they said that i t will be here soon. i just placed the motor in the frame, and there is very little room at all. i think that the gas tank will be in the way a bit for the carb, maby not? i think that it will just bolt right in. the clutch cover back plate is different. the 500 motor is very big and heavy. at leist twice the size and weight if the 400.
if you decide to get a 500 for your 400 scrambler. look at savage yards. AND CHECK HOW MUCH THE SHIPPING WILL BE BEFORE BUYING IT. the motor was $250 to ship. not including the rest of the stuff. i will let you know how it goes in a coupple days.
