the only issues with the 800 are the melting plastic thing. if hte exhuast gets too hot it will melt the plastic behind your leg next to the seat.
other then that, the 800 has been face to face with the Kawisaki 750 and the Bomb 800, and time after time the tests prove that the 800 is placed 1.5 because its too good to be in second were the kawisaki is, but its slight lack of speed on the Bomb 800 makes it .5 lower.
the 800 is the toughest bike you'll find, it might be a 150 pounds heavier than the competition, but its got torque and power none of them can beat.

Just to let you know I had started a thread asking basically the same question a week or so ago and got some great info. But more to the point, I test drove one of the sp800's yesterday and I was thoroughly impressed. Much more impressed with the Sportsman than with the new Rincon, King Quad, or BF750i. I did not check out the BRP 800---but the Polaris has it all for power, utility, easy-to-use, towing, storage---it just seems to be the best thought out product on the market. I intend to get one asap, and this will be my first Polaris---I've been on Hondas for a long time and I am excited about getting the 800 soon. Hope this helps.
