thats why this supposed to be a friendly forum. its not wise to get to heated and **** off the moderator. ive found good info on this and a debate is ok as long as it doesnt get too heated. remember everyone has their own ideas of whats the best abd your not going to change their mind.

I agree. I love a good debate and enjoy hearing others experiences and opinions when they have good relevent information to share. That's what the forum is for, and it has been a great help to me. I want to thank the moderators for taking care of the problem. I hope I did not offend anyone by trying to reason with him. I hope maybe he will understand one day that "bashing" your way through life does not work.

i understood the frustration of the foolishness that was taking place fireslayer, i just try to ignor the bad ones and keep things calm. its just like when im on the road and people using the c.b for their own fighting purposes, i hate it and but try to turn it down or tune them out. theirs always going to be people like that no matter what.

Too many posts were ruined by that type of bashing. I've witnessed mister angry reck good posts and that shouldn't be.

Default Polaris?????

just sunk my good ole 400 scrammy in a sink hole darn near dead. Hydro locked engine, pulled the plug pumped the water out and the scrammy got me home. Point being was i was with a yamaha and a artic cat, that for no reason don't like my quad, but after she cranked and spit all the water out of the belt housing and started pulling wheelies again, my friends said they had a new found respect for my polaris. After all it is the way out.

Default Polaris?????

I've told my story several times (about my issues with a Kawi V-force) on this forum....Just search my posts under my username, as I don't feel like typing all that again!

When I first posted about it, I was IRATE, as this (at the time) was the largest single purchase (dollar wise) that I had ever made in my life. You have to understand, the most I ever paid for a truck was barely over 5 grand (that was in 1990), and that remains, to this day, the most I have ever paid for a road-going vehicle!! I AM NOT RICH. This should be obvious... However, I would spend nearly EVERY DIME I HAVE on an ATV. That's how passionate I am about riding. I LOVE IT!! Few things in my life have given me the absolute joy I get from off-road riding. I credit my first dirt bike to my being here today....It saved me from a road (in my early teen years) that was leading to a sure dead end. RIDING IS MY RELIGION!! (now I will go door to door handing out fliers to convert non-believers! )

Enough with my sob story.
----------------------------------------

One point addressed by Zerowick about Polaris' caught my eye. (that they are the 3/4 ton atv's in a sea of 1/2 tons).

I like to compare them to my Harley, as compared to a CBR600 I had for 8 years....

I broke off a rear turnsignal on my CBR by bumping into it in a crowded shed (with my leg).

I backed into my Harley turnsignal with a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis. The insert of my LED turnsignal popped out. That was it. Popped it back in....No damage done!

If that was my CBR, not only would the turnsignal have broken off, it would have taken $100+ worth of rear fairing with it!!

My CBR weighed 450LBS with a full tank. My Harley weighs 630 DRY.
My CBR600F2 topped out at 145MPH (Speedometer indicated MUCH higher). My Harley, barley over 100.....

Same deal with the Sportsmans. Sure, that Jap machine may be lighter, faster, but the Polaris is a TANK!! Now, I've been riding Jap machines since I was 12. Would I take my Polaris up a sand hill in a pit with an inverted lip at the top (like I used to do on a less-than-300LB. Honda TRX250R? No F'in' WAY!! Different animal.

But, I can cross swamps that I would never have dreamed of crossing! As you can see, I'm comparing a Jap sport quad to an American utility ATV --- apples to grapefruit. But I am aging. The things that interest me now, I would have laughed at 20 years ago. It's all a matter of what I want NOW. Not what anyone else wants. THAT'S what influenced my particular purchase. My V-Force was being used in an environment more suited for utility ATV's--- that may be the reason for my rash of issues with it. Had I ran it only in a sand pit (climbing huge hills, and racing around, hitting jumps) I probably would be singing it's praises right now. However, my personal experience showed that the V-Force failed where my 800 excels.

The V-Force was mechanically quiet. My Sportsman is VERY noisy.

I hit rocks that bent, dented, and scratched every part of the V-Force's underside. With the Sportsman, I've SLAMMED rocks while blasting thru mud, and only paint scratches were visible...no dents whatsoever....even after the full weight of the machine came down on them.

V-Force was only a 700, yet it launched harder than my 800. My sportsman will leave it behind in a swamp!!

My 250R was fast, light and seemingly indestructable. That motor was UNBELIEVABLE in it's reliability!! However, I blew the rear tires right off the rims every single time I rode!!

Now, these are my OPINIONS. They are not meant to start a war. Only to offer an opinion of ONLY 3 ATV's that I have hands-on experience with. Shopping for an ATV? Use my info to make YOUR decision. I can't make that for you.

Good luck, and have fun, no matter what you choose.

Default Polaris?????

You asked for pros and cons on Polaris, well here they are. I've had two of them, one Sportsman 500, and now I have an '03 Sportsman 600. The ride is great, but on the 600, gas mileage is around 70 miles to the tank. The 600 has plenty of power, but I've had nothing but trouble with it. The rear bolt that helps hold the rear hub to the A-arm has sheared off twice, the last time while I was in Utah, 30 miles from our motel. Luckily was able to tiewrap and tape in place to get back. On that same trip to Utah, the stator went out, thus ending my riding on the next to the last day out there.
This past week in West Virginia on the last day of 2 days riding my engine broke along with the foot break. Don't know what's wrong with engine yet, in shop for repairs. Update later. Also the foot brake went out for the second time. Only have 1800 miles on bike. So I've lost all confidence in Polaris.
When I get it fixed, I'm getting rid of it. I don't have a clue what brand I'll get next. Any ideas anyone?

I don't think brand matters. Polaris has the lion's share of the market. So you hear more problems with them. A buddy had a 660 that the tranny went out on within 10 hours so don't bank on the yamaha either. You can get a bad one no matter where you go.
