Is this something I should try?

After a recent ride on my 89 Trailboss 250 2x4 I discovered what looks to be gas leaking in the area of where the oil pump is attached. This is leaking slowly in my garage.

My question is should I attempt to correct this issue myself? Could this just be a gasket issue or more serious?

I have the Clymer service manual for this bike and I am somewhat mechanically inclined (ie. I've changed chains, sprokets, oil on my car, etc.) However, in the past I have normally shyed away from major engine issues, leaving that to the professionals.

With the tools and manual is this something I might consider attempting myself? My Polaris service guy is over an hour away.

I would try it myself. Besides saving $48 an hour, I enjoy working on my quads. I hardly ever wrenched on anything before I got quads. All I did was take it apart, then put it back together the same way. Now I work on my quads, and all of my buddies quads, with no hesitation at all.

I would give it a try.The clymer manual are top notch and explains every thing step by step, besides if you fail you can just put all the parts in a big box and let someone else figure it out.
