Default New owner needs help.

Hey, I just bought a used 2001 Sportsman 500 HO and I want to change the fluids. I don't have an owners manual, so I have no idea what I'm doing. How do you change the rear gearcase fluid? I found the drain plug, but not the fill hole. Also, can you use the same oil from the gearcase to fill the transmission? I checked the tranny fluid and it is low on the dipstick. One more thing, does the front and rear gearcase use the same fluid? I'm taking it out on it's first big trip this weekend and I wanted to have it ready to go....any advice is also appreciated as far as other things to change or check...(I've already got the oil covered) Thanks!!!

OK, I figured out that the tranny and gearcase are the same...Now, all I need to know is if you can use the same fluid in the front and back.

The tranny/rear diff run a different oil then the front dif. The front I use 80w90 but the rear you use Polaris AGL I think thats what they call it. I tried running gear oil in the rear and it did not shift in and out of gear very easily. Also might want to change the front hub oil, you need specific Polaris oil for that also. Hope you enjoy your quad.

Go to the Polaris website and you can download it for free. I think there is a rider tab and then you can choose a Owners Manual or Parts Manual.
