Default 500 knocking

Just bought 2 scrambler 500's off of ebay. One is a 2002 and the other is a 2003 with a hot seat performance kit. Both have the same knocking noise from the bottom end. It sounds like it is coming from the crank behind the pull starter. I have never heard o scrambler run. Is this a normal noise since both have the same noise.

That is the famous Polaris clutch knock/ chatter. All Polaris atv's will do it. If you rev it does it go away? These noises are caused by worn buttons in the primary clutch basket causing slop in the clutch.

If you dont get the clutches fixed you will end up with more problems than you want.It will end up knocking the seals out of the lower end of the motor.

I think mine is doing the same. Is the fix easy? What's all involved? A step by step would be nice, .

Best thing to do is issolate the problem to be sure.Take the clutch cover off, remove belt, remove front clutch, start engine. If noise goes away take the front clutch to a shop and get it rebuilt or if it is beyond repair check ebay for a seller that goes by Mohawk salvge they list rebuilt primary clutches with a "buy it now" around $180 and they are like new.I got one for the old 400.
