Racing Shocks?
#1
Has anyone put aftermarket shocks on their scrambler. I was looking into doing it because the stock suspension is horrible and I found someone that is selling a front and rear kit used from HPD, which I couldn't find on their website, but they are supposedly racing shocks with reservoirs, 7-way adjustable, and lower it about 2 inches. Would this be a decent buy for about $350. It was set up for harescrambles which is the type of suspension that I want. Also if it came from an 02 will it fit an 00 I believe that 98-03 are all the same but am not sure. Also how much will it cost to recharge them with nitrogen?

I found out that they are off of a 2002 500 4x4 will this fit on a 2000 400 2x4. I don't know if these are interchangable or not? How can I find out before I waste my money? Does anyone know if they would mount the same or not?

they should fit becuase the factory struts use the same part number, that suspension setup is pretty old, HPD used to offer it and then stopped making it. Its the setup I want but havn't been able to find, that price is alittle steep imo but it is a rare set up so I guess it comes down to how bad you want it. Its a good setup from what I have been able to gather. harescrambles are normally pretty flat arn't they? they may be overkill for that type of situation.
I run the works struts and factory rear fox shock on mine. with the rear lowered 1.5 inches and widened 2 inches(total) the handling difference is amazing even with 22 inch rear tires.

Thanks for your help. I noticed that most of aftermarket shocks didn't specify for a 500 or 400 or a 2x4 vs 4x4. I wasn't sure if that was a good price or not. I will be racing in some XC races this year but I do quite a bit on MX tracks that's why this setup sounded good for me, because they are adjustable. Mine does have the fox rear shock so I don't really need a rear but that comes with it. I didn't think that the price was too bad because HSP sells works front struts for $180 and then the springs are a bit too. Also the person does not have any pictures of the setup for me, curious as to what color they are if u would know at all, I have never heard of this kit at all before I saw it for sale.

HSP sells KIMPEX front struts for $180, not Works. You had me excited for a minute until I saw that it's not Wroks struts they sell.

works struts all the way. one of the best mods I have done and Ive done alot. my sig is alittle out of date.
if your looking for drop they won;t get you that, altough honestly with just the rear lower the difference in handling is amazing. and you could easily set it up to go back and fourth.
