Lots of Xplorer 300 questions
#1
I have a 1998 xplorer 300, and i have some questions that I hope someone can answers.
First is I have a charging problem, it doesn't charge at all. I checked the voltage at the 2 yellow wires and it is less than 1 volt???? Maybe rust coveing the coil??? Should i pull the flywheel and see? Also I do alot of winching so is there anyone that makes a higher output coil to help keep the battery charged. And has anyone ever ran dual batteries?
Second is I need new tires. Is it ok to go up one inch on both the front and the back? I was thinking mudlites. Will those be to agressive for the little 300?
Third is i need new struts. Which ones are good but also have a low price? Are these good?
Fourth is I need a new needle and seat and wondering which size i need? Is it a 2.5? Im just going to order them from dennis kirk so maybe someone could help me find a part number?
Thanks a bunch!!

Charging problem is due to either a bad altenator..in your case all polaris's..the starter and altenator are one unit. Mudlights would be fine tires for your 300..I wouldn't go any bigger then 25's though. Some people don't like the Kimpex gas struts as they say they are too stiff..its either the kimpex, stock polaris, or custom made works suspension. Finally get a needle and seat from your dealer.

Also, I have shifting problems. When i put it into high it feels like it will barely go in, and some times it pops out right when i hit the throttle? And when i put it into reverse i have to hold the shifter lever back, with the overdrive button pushed, so the 4wd light will come on.. Any ideas on those problems?

More then likely you could have the starter/altenator rebuilt at a dealer. As far as the shifting problems go. take off the right side panel and adjust your linkage. You can do it with a couple adjustable wrenches, tighten up the rods until you get firm shifts and hear it "click" into each gear. This should also solve the problem with the 4x4 in reverse as the linkage is too sloppy and inside the shifter, the shifter itself is not tripping the 4x4 switch.

So you think my 300 can handle 24's inthe front and 25's in the back?? If so what ones would be the best? Mudlites? I do some rockcrawling, snow riding, hill climbs, Pretty much everything i guess.
Thanks

I put 25 in tires front and rear on my 250 trailboss 4x4 plow rig and no problems. It had 24 in rears and 23 in fronts from the factory. The key is that it is on demand 4wd, the 4wd will come and go as needed, without a problem. The front and rear are really never locked in together as per say a truck.

I bought the factory tires off a 2000 sportsman 500 goodyears I think. No they don't spin easy in high range, that's the beauty of having low. I wouldn't go too aggressive with limited horsepower.

The charging system consists of THREE things. The flywheel, stator and regulator.
