Default Final Decision Need Input!

Hi Guys,

I am purchasing a new one this Saturday and finally have it down, after many hours of research, to either the Sportsman 500 EFI or the Kodiak 450. I am leaning towards the Sportsman, but wanted to hear some final words on why the Polaris is the right choice. The only reservation I have is the stalling issue with the EFI model and whether or not to even get the EFI model. I do not anticipate taking the rig to higher elevations, so I don't know if the EFI is a must.

Any words of wisdom here would be greatly appreciated.

Bubbba

The kodiak with the irs is a decent atv but the Polaris rides way better and has alot more power. If you dont want the efi then go for the Sportsman 450. They have more power than the previous 400sp. There is a guy that I ride with that has a kodiak with 26" swampers and he can keep up pretty well. It does ok in the mud but will bog down in thicker mud. The SP450 will beat it in a drag but not by much. I would go for the SP450.

Thanks for the input! I did not research the sp450 much. Does this setup have the same longevity as the sp500? Part of the appeal of the 500 is that is a top seller and has been a tried and true design for Polaris.

Thanks again!

Bubba

I think it is based off the same engine either a smaller bore or differnt stroke.

The 450 is the same motor as the 500ho. If you can find a new carb 500ho go for it but I think that will be hard to do so the 450 is the next best thing.

I think that will be the plan for me. The non-EFI is cheaper, less expensive to repair should something go wrong (carbs are carbs). I do live in a cold climate and still think non-EFI, which is older than the hills, will still start well on a cold morning.

Thanks,

Bubba

If you cant find the 500ho carb then I think you would be good with the 450. You can rejet for the colder weather to make it run better.

You outta go here Text. I just bought a new 2005 Sportsman 700 EFI for about 5500 OTD. Click on showroom then current inventory and start at page 4. Might be worth the drive for you. I see them going for more money used on ebay than this price. Brian
