I guess everybody has seen how the oil companys are racking up Billons of dollars after the huricanes, not that they wasnt allready doing that before. Im sorry but all this BS of prices up and down because what MIGHT happen in the future in investments and war in Iraq and whats going on in Iran and this is OK to jack prices up. The cost is no more to refine than 3 or more yrs ago and dollar per barrel is only going up due to stuff thats not happened yet. Oil companeys jacked the prices Before the 1st hurricane hit land. Plus they have insurance on there refineries and platforms. So while they can sit back in there million dollar homes and have a set retirement fund for there Grandkids we are pinching pennys to work and enjoy going out and have what little fun on our quads.(Due to land owners closeing off there lands to keep us off). I love the way the senate was going to investagate the gas hike after the Hurricanes was over,( A little envelope under the tabe with Thousands of $) and they find no fault with the oil companeys. Is it just me or should we even bother electing a$$holes for governors, senators, etc. This just ripes my butt. Gas went from $2.00 to $2.27 in 3 days. 4yrs ago I bought gas for .99 cents. Let someone with a little horse sence come up with an electic car and PUT it into production. I know with all the technogy that it can be done and be practical. Yea i know its off topic but in a way it effects all Atv riders. I just would like to see some leader in this country with brass b***s to stand up and say this is enough. I hope Ross Parole runs again for president and wins. This country couldn't get no worse with him in office maybe he would slap the oil companeys around. Well im threw for the moment. But im still ticked.
Can I get a amen.

One reason for higher gas prices is crude prices but the main reason is supply and demand. The oil companies are no different than you if you were in business they want the max dollar for what they sell.

The thing is- the prices of crude go up due to stock market people ASSUME what might happen a week or a month from now. My point is at least wait till the mid east cuts our oil supply off before we jack prices up. Your right about them getting the MAX DOLLAR, they sure are. They told the other day that the oil compaines made so many billons of dollars in the last quarter. They made it off us. Yes I know they need to make a profit but BILLONS of dollars that come from the pumps where we fill up. If they dropped prices to lets say $1.50 a gallon and they made 1 Billon from that thats still high but at least I could affored it. Im talking about clearing Billions thats after production costs.
This country didnt have a inflation problem this bad untill the last 40 to 50 years. This country is about 230 yrs old. Look at all the things that are still going up execpt our checks. Im sorry but this country as much as I love it is going down hill.

Why do they make refining oil out to be rocket science?

I live just a short dirive from where oil was first struck, Much of this refinery was destroyed in the great fire and flood of June 1892.
The question is why do the want to force the closure of refineries due to "so called" improper fuel quality when the nation is in a crisis?

I felt the same way a few weeks ago when I read an article in the front page of a local paper stating......"Oil companies report record 275 billion profit in the fourth quarter". It may have been one company even I can't remember. Gotta love good ole Bush protecting his own. His days are numbered though as his term will be over soon. Same goes for high credit finance rates thanks to Reagan. I hate to say it but republicans are a problem. Brian

it was mobil that had the record high earnings. and regan got everyone to buy at high interest rates like 18% so we had to dig our way out of that on. and mr. bush is an oil man him self, hence noway hes going to step on toes there. if you find a honest polition let me know we'll vote for him. but ill bet he either wont last long or he'll be crupt shortly.

The last time I run the numbers for BP ( i own stock ... so buy BP fuel ) they were making .01 profit per gallon of gas ... compaired to last years profit of .007 per gallon.

Crude oil is 47% to 53% the cost of fuel ... TAXS!! is 22% to 30% the cost!! Lets cut TAXS people!

We are now in a Global economy combined with politics. While the hurricanes had a short term impact on supply, the real driver of demand is China and South America. I don't doubt there is gouging going on. Look a diesel prices. Diesel is cheaper to refine and for as long as I can remember was always cheaper than 87 octane. Here in NC it is more than premium at 2.60 a gallon

I don't understan the diesel l hike either. Its still higher than gas here too. But that didn't happen till after the hurricain. I heard them tell on the news it was due to everybody buying trucks with diesel motors. At least they have come up with the idea of using used cooking oil to run them now. Now im sure because of that McDonalds will jack the price of fries up now. lol. I know in Tn that we pay at least .40 cents on Tax per gallon if it hasnt went up over the last year. Most of that goes to road building. Bush would let them drill oil in his wifes head if he thought they hit the mother load. After him approving the Arabs to take over our ports I belive anything he does. Im sure they would UAE is an allie, but all it takes is 1 person on the inside at a port to sneak a weapon in this country knowing how it all works.
