Lock & Ride question.

Lock & Ride question.
I have a Lock & Ride rear basket and the pin that holds the latch keeps coming off. The round toothed washer/clip keeps popping off the pin. Now I can't find the washer/clip. Has anyone tried putting a nut and bolt in place of the pin?
