Default Chi-Town winch from Harbor Freight-Where to start?

Thanks to all for the help with this. I installed it tonight with the Kappers mount and fairlead. Very slick. Took about 2 hours total. Thanks Backinthesaddleagain for the advice. I am going to try and post pictures for anyone that wants to see what it looks like installed.

i have 2 harbor freight winches and have used them with no problems. i am always a little hesitant when buying harbor freight stuff but i have had gotten more than my money's worth on most of their stuff. i guess if everything they sold was junk they would be out of business.

How did you mount the controller for the winch? I have mine just hanging in the left footwell. I thought about making a bracket to hang it on the left front fender but haven't gotten around to it yet. I think the winch will work fine for me.

does yours have the 2 button yellow controller?. i mounted the handheld controller to the handlebar clamp cover on my trailblazer. i do not know what you have to work with. mine works perfect for me . it even matches the yellow of my 2003 trailblazer.

Just a word of caution........These winches can draw upwards of 200 AMPS when loaded up.........be very careful the power wires are kept clear of anywhere it could short out on or when you handle it that there are no exposed electrial wires or connectors. I don't know exactly what your switch is that's "just hanging in the left footwell".....it could be fully enclosed and designed to be remotely handled. But if it's one of those big rotary switches......they are designed to be mounted and have exposed electrical connectors on the back........200 AMPS is not to be taken lightly.

Good Luck and glad to hear the KFI mount worked out well for you.

Bob
