Do you absolutly have to use K&Ns "special" cleaner? Or would laundry or dish soap work just as well?

K&N filters are somewhat delicate. I wouldn't use anything but K&N products on it.

I have used them in every ride I have had including my truck and I tried a long time ago what you are questioning and it got clogged up fast and severely restricted airflow. I would just spend the little bit of money on the recharge kit.

Bubby you dont have to use K&N brand cleaner and oil.........if cost is what your looking at your dealer should be able to hook you up with an alternative..
my dealer keeps different brands when I go back into my shop ill get the brand for ya but I buy a big can of cleane and a big can of filter oil relatively enexspensive...less than a small can of K&N oil....used for overa year nowno probs...

$10 at I think Checker Auto or Auto Zone by me for the K&N recharge kit, stick with the K&N recharge kit for the best performance.
