I'm new to the forums and had a question about jetting the atv for higher elevation.

I have a '97 Polaris Scrambler 500 that I'll be moving to an elevation of 7000' from 1500' and wanted to know what the proper jetting would be. I also have a high thruput foam filter and a DG pipe attached. I've already taken the atv up north and it runs, but not as responsive in the lower lands.

I've been told by different speciality places the jet value from 120 to 145.7 and can't seem to get a standard answer and was wondering if anyone would be able to shed some light on the subject.

if it runs at 7000ft but not quite as well just try going down 1 size from what you have in it--should work.

I'm thinking that I'll just get 2 new jets in varying size and try the 1st one to see if it makes any difference. I can't really change the jet where I'm at now (1500') because I won't be able to get a good indication of what the performance is. I'll be trying it up north this weekend and will post back my results.

 

i think you're supposed to change your clutch weights too.check a manual for the specs or someone on here might know.

 

Update, I ended up installing a 147.5 jet (originally 155 for sea level) after talking with dynajet tech (for every 3K feet subtract 4) I had to go to 6K feet and subtracted 8 from the original size. Tested and running great. Thanks guys.
