I am looking at a 1998 425 magnum 4x4 with about
650 miles on it price is $3200. Is this a good machine for the money?? Where there any problems with this year?? Thanks.

$3,200 is not a bad price for this machine if its in good shape. I have the 98 Magnum and I have had no serious trouble. About the only problem that I have had is the front brakes went out very quickly. I replaced them with better pads and have not had a problem since. Being it has only 600 miles, it probably does not have any serious items wore out. This machine has the three chain system. Check all three chains and the sprockets to see if any seem to have any excessive wear. Also, check for the obvious things. i.e. evidence of a wreck, proper maintenance. One good way to see if the owner has greased it properly is to ask him to show you all of the grease points. If you cannot show all of them to you, he probably has not greased it completely. I really like my Magnum. The 3 chains create some extra maintenance, but are no less reliable than the shaft drive models. Post any additional questions that you have.

 

I have a friend with a '95 Mag 425. It has several little 'nagging' problems. All of them have been fixed in the '98 model, with the exception of brakes that seem to wear faster than they should. They are fast, smooth riding machines. Price seems good for as few miles as it has, unless it has been abused.
