Help with carb/idle issues
#1
its a 2004 sp 500 ho and i cleaned the carb last summer, replaced the needle , jets and so forth (i worked at a dealer then so it was really cheap for me to do) . then i parked the quad for the winter maybe using it 3 times.. and the quad wont idle smoothly and if it does actually idle when you get on it and wanna go some where it sits there and bogs, i think im running too rich off the bottom end? does this quad have high and lo jets? But heres the catch when im riding in the upper rpms 2000 + the quad runs really good but once you slow down to lower ( ex a turn or something like that where your going slow) it bogs andjust runs like it has water in the gas and even stalls sometimes.
problem #2 The etc on my quad was played with ( thanks to my friends kid playing with it) how do you set the etc lil adjuster on the cable?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks guys/girls

You could have some gunk in your carb. If it was running good before, you might want to drain the gas and put in some fresh stuff with some carb cleaner additive. I've heard somewhere that the additives the oil companies use these days makes the gas go stale a lot quicker. Definetely put sta-bil in next year.
If that don't work then rip into the carb. Probably just cleaning stuff because it shouldn't need adjustment from one year to another. Even if you set it up in cold weather, shouldn't be that drastic of a change.

welli soaked the carb in a container of carb kleen that i bought from napa still didnt help much i left if for a couple hours, as far as needle adjustment, i made a note of the needle c-clip position ( 1st notch ) and assmbled in correctly, i also had replaced a headgasket and possibly the carb was adjusted wrong there . not sure, we had the cam and valves out i lapped them and so forth ( i did this in school (nait) for a project ) so i had proper guidance, it just seems it will idle some times then you blip the gas and it just dies after that..

OK, so now you need to take your carb apart and clean it. Just soaking the whole thing in carb cleaner won't really do anything except clean the outside. Sounds like maybe your mj is clogged a little.

you said by blipping the throttle it some times changes it, you sure your cable is not binding up. and like he said you need to disassemble the carb to clean it properly and the idle circuit is dirty by the sounds. use air to blow it out after cleaning if u can.
