i still think that if you call it an 800 it should be 800cc not 749 or sumthin like that, 799 works but not way off like i have seen

oops sorry i meant 525 pred i also think that the 950 is to big but the guy ask what rumors we have heard and thats what i heard we have also discussed this whole 950 thing and i can tell you that on my property there is no limit to how big an atv engine can be. i am really hoping for a true 800cc quad to but if not i would be perfectly happy with what they have now...

When Polaris modified the engine to come up with the "800"......they stopped at substantially less cc than 800....it's not a true 800cc as others have mentioned. I can't remember exactly what the "800" actually displaces but it is a good chunk less. Why???

It's very possible the engine block is not capable of being bored any larger. The other variable is the stroke.......can it be stroked anymore??? I have to believe that there is a very good reason why they didn't just go to 799cc right of the bat when they decided to build the "800"......the motor may not have any displacement left in it.

With that said......there are many ways to skin a cat particularly with todays electronics.

But I don't necessarily think Polaris is going to be trying out-drag-race the competition in this market segment anyway.

i think that they came out with that engine in a panic to get it out first. it is actually 760cc i dont think they can bore that out to 799. it would be nice to see some new engines maybe coming from ktm going into the polaris platforms.

Yeah thats the RMK 900 motor i believe, but thats a sled, not going to go into an ATV with that motor.

I think polaris is a little smarter then we all give them credit for... what i have seen coming is the sportsman "759" and then bombardier is like we need to make a bigger faster quad and they end up coming out with a 799 cc HO

if u watch the races the polaris is NOT far behind the bomb... i think polaris did this for a reason so they have room to improve/ make fast/ more tourq their monster 800

Backinthesaddleagain. I have to disagree with what you said. You claimed that "Polaris isn't going to be trying to out-drag-race the competition in this market segment anyway." .. I completely disagree. Ever since like '95 When Polaris came out with the Sportsman 500, (from what i've recognized) Polaris has always had some sort of ego, to always want to be a notch bigger in the Utility ATV section. Also in 2002 when Kawasaki came out with the P650, and Yamaha came out with their 660, then out of no where Polaris comes along with their 700, to top them both. And recently, in '05 when everyone was swarming around the new Kaw. Bruteforce 750, Polaris, again, comes out of no where and tops it (JUST BARELY) with 760cc. Personally, i think there is alot of strategy behind this. #1, they wanted to have the biggest. #2, It gave Polaris some breathing room to see what the competetion would come out with, or throw at Polaris (Bombardier), so i guarentee you, this coming year, or '08, you'll see a Polaris Sportsman 800 H.O. EFI (799c), and yes it will most likely top them all. It makes sense to me. I dont know about the KTM motors or anything, but i also dont think they would jump all the way up to a 950. Atleast maybe a 850 or possibly 900 (if they did) but not a 950..

polaris aint dumb when it comes down to business. look at their sales records they are steadilly inclining, i somewhat agree with the holding back statement Polaris500HO4x4, but they do need to stop half assing some of these quads

Very true... i think polaris is a little too anxious to get their new quads out before a complete run through test

By the way the new KTM 525 will full out scream in the pred... may be the new leader of sport quads you never know
