I am trying to decide on some wheels and tires

bigfatguy.....
I don't have them personally but when I need tires I'll probably go with the mudlites xtr's....They're radials and I hear they are awesome tires.......I'm sure there are other good ones but from my knowledge these are my choice.........

No they are definitely different.......I love myPXT's.....They have been great tires so far.....The only thing the same about the two is that they are both radials.....You'll get a better ride and a better tire to ground footprint with radials.....Hope this helps......

in sloppy mud, bias-ply tires work better than radials. because radials are 'softer' they flatten out and dont give the carveing that non-radials give.
with that being said, ITP tires and rims are the best you can get, and i would go with the XTR's
PXT's are good, but there VERY soft rubber, they wear out fast on anything other than dirt and mud. i got about 550 miles out of mine before they were shot - probebly 80% street 20% trail

Big Fat Guy, I have 2 Sportsman 500's. I just recently purchased the XTP Mudlites (xl version) on 26" wheels and love them. I mostly ride in woods on trails and in some big mud. Also on gravel county roads, the tires are excellent and when on the road they ride great, like a radial. I was so impressed that I purchased a second set for my other Sportrsman. Also a friend like them so much when we rode at the Badland's last weekend he ordered a set for his 2006 Sportsman 800 EFI. On ebay 429.00 for wheels and tire combo including shipping already mounted, just bolt them on and ride. The gentlemen we purchased also sells the tires without the wheels. I purchasd the whole set and sold my old setup to my local Polaris dealer.

I recently got the Mudlite XTRs on ITP Type 7 cast aluminum rims. Size 26"x12".
I am very impressed with this package. The tires are radials but are also firm without the mushy feel of the stock PXTs. The fronts in particular are wider, flatter and firmer than the PXTs so you don't get that pushy/mushy/marshmellow feel through corners like the PXTs. They have major lugs so they hook-up great but really the most impressive part is the all-terrain handling......these suckers handle great! They steer lightly, track good and carve through the trails sooooo nice. I think having the correct front tire/wheel/offset arrangement is so important for the steering/handling and this set-up rocks. I was actually a bit surprised at how well a "mud tire" with these big lugs could handle. I now have about 150 miles on them so I've become accustomed to them. The only thing that I would have liked is if the rears were availible in 12" wide for even better traction.
I recommend this wheel/tire package......it seems to be a "mud tire"....... but it really handles great too.
Edit.......They are 6-PLY too.

I went with the stock size regular mudlites [You can see em in My pictures] and just put them on the stock steel rims. I have been out alot in the last bit and have really put them to the test . Since the snow is almost gone it is full on MUD season right now and man do these tires like the mud . I am also pleased to find that I only lost a bit of top end, maybe 3 or 4 mph in total but I dont notice it till after 40. They do ride a little rougher but not a big deal .
Over all they really boosted performance in mud , clay or muskeg .
Plus they look so mean .......

I loved my ITP series 6 wheels till today when in the mud something got between the caliper and the wheel and punched a hole in the wheel. There's only about a 1/4 inch clearance between the wheel and caliper.
