AGL Question
#1
Did a quick search on the forum and some say you can use ATV Dextron III to substitute the agl and some say you can't and to use 5W30 motor oil??? I know you can use the amsoil stuff but is there anything you can pick up at a auto parts store that will work??? Thanks.

Im looking for this information as well.
I just did the first tranmission fluid change on my '05 Scrambler 500 last night. When I drained it, the fluid coming out looked like "used" ATF fluid, and I coulda swore I read here that people were running Synthetic Mobil 1 ATF in their 500 tranmissions. So I filled it with just shy of a quart of fresh mobil 1 ATF. Came in the house, washed up - jumped on the forums and did a bunch of searches. Some say do *not* use ATF, some say its fine, others say only use the polaris AGL, some say use chain case lube.....
Sooooo I havent ridden it yet but it is full of Mobil 1 ATF at the moment - id hate to bugger up the tranmission due to having the wrong fluid in it.
Stuff that came out sure looked and felt like ATF to me (although a bit dirty) - but now I am second guessing myself.

I'd say you should use a chain case lube. I say this becasue they are designed to stand up to the shearing that occur when a oil baithed chain rolls on a sprocket. You can probably get by with a good synthetic oil and even better is synthetic ATF. Look at Dextron, Mercorn or a Universal ATF. IF you realy want to use oil use one formulated for a Motor cycle engine as they have more anit shear aditatives than a STD oil. As for me I'm going with the Amsoil Series 2000 chain case lube. The chain case on an 06 SP700 only takes like 8 OZ of the stuff it not that big of an expense and I always plan for maintenance well in advance os I've got the correct stuff on hand. If you plan ahead mail ordering the correct fluids is no big deal and you save some $$$ is you shop. The Big bugger is the front diff it uses a synthetic hydrolic oil and not std gear lube. Go figure. 4 lubes for an ATV while my car and truck only have 2 for the drive trane. Go figure.

I have a 2000 model (Scrambler) and the trans takes (PPS) Polaris Premium Synthetic gear case oil (weight?).
It doesn't take the AGL fluid (like my sp700) but its still not Auto Trans fluid such as used in cars.
A lot of different fluids (auto trans to 80w90 gear lube) have been used in the trans' buy others saying they had no problems. (used with their sleds, model X atv etc...)
I'm not so sure myself.
BBScrambler said before the Amsoil chaincase 2000 lube is the substitute.
I know I won't stray from the PPD Polaris Premium Demand Drive (Synthetic) fluid in the front Differential on my sp700.
