I have also never replaced the head bolts...never had a problem either. I did have a problem with a leaking aftermarket head gasket though. It only lasted about 3 hours! I replaced with an OEM gasket and haven't had a problem since. The Polaris gasket actually feels a little heavier duty than the aftermarket gasket I had.

I'm going to go ahead and just order a polaris head gasket - seems to be the best thing to do. Just sucks that i cant locate one at a nearby polaris dealer. Wanted to go ride this weekend.

More then likely the bolt or bolts won't properly torque the second time.
The 400L does not have "head bolts". It has studs and nuts and they do not need to be replaced unless damaged.

Are you sure the coolant is not leaking from the coolant vent screw on top of the head instead of a head bolt?

Its leaking from the actual nut, not the coolant vent screw. The one closest to the coolant sensor.

Just wanted to say thenks for the help guys. Ended up getting the polaris head gasket. Put it back together and only had a chance to run it for 10-15 minutes. Didnt see any leaks, so hopefully it'll stay that way.
