The dreaded steering bushing

If it is in the rivets, get or find somebody with a heavy-duty rivet gun. Replace the soft aluminum rivets with high grade STEEL ones. Get them galvanized if you can. They will hold the thing solid until the bushing itself wears out. If the bushing itself has slop in it, though, get the HPD or Hot Seat one while you are at it.

You would not want to put in the new styl on it takes a torch and a cutting wheel and a welder plus total removal of a ll plastic and a new stearing post Don,t waste your time just rebolt it and run it When it is totaly shot replace it.

The mechanic at my dealer said he began putting nylock bolts and nuts on instead of the rivets. He has done hundreds, and recently one nut backed off. The customer raised hell, and the owner of the dealership got onto the mechanic. He now has to rivet every bushing he replaces.
