Default 2000 Trail Boss 325 Help

I bought a used 2000 Trail boss 325 ran fine air cleaner was real bad when I bought it. I installed a new air cleaner and outer wear, plus a new spark plug then chaned the oil .
It ran fiune around home, I thought it could use more power but?? Anyway took it out to the trails today it did fine on the open strech but back in woods going slow it start lossing power. My daughter was riding it and got stuck, I jumped on and the thing would hardly rev up then when I did get it reved up black smoke came out. It would run fine for a bit more then the same thing.

Plan of action is to rome and drian the gas tank and change the fule filter. Remove the carb and clean/inspect.

If anyone has more input please give it,

Thanks all,

Default 2000 Trail Boss 325 Help

I pulled the carb apart and cleand it good. The needle and seat looked good. I blew air through all the holes. The float was 1/32 from the edge to the top where it would seat off. How far out do I ture the adjustment scew? One book said 1 ture the othe said 2? I did go 1 turn and it seams to have more power it just isnt snappy when you give it gas, Also afer a 10min ride there was a small amount of gas dripping out the tube at the bottom of the carb. Does that mean the float isnt right or needle and seat not working?

Do we have any carb experts in here?

Sounds like the float is off in the bowl. (gas dripping)

Air screw, or idle adjustment. To get to the idle adjustment, you'd have to remove the plastic plug, and mine is at 1 1/2 turns. I also have a pipe, jet kit, K&n and air box vents, so it may be different on yours.

Got the factory manual at home, if the dealer can't/won't give you any info. Just send me a pm of what you need.

The plug has been removed, I noted ther is no washer or o-ring under the spring. I orderd a new needle and seat air screw,spring,o-ring and washer.
Should be in soon. On the jet needle where does the clip go right now it is on the third down from the top. the dealer said in the middle and some books I have say -3. So Im confused on where it needs to go?

Can't remember for sure, but I think mines on 3. Got a bigger carb to put on mine, so I'll get to go through the jetting guessing game soon. Wouldn't be so bad if they made it a little easier to get to the carb.

Not that I know of. You could make one yourself. But it's still be hard to tell exactly how much you turned it. What a pain it is to take off, just to flip it upside down and make the adjustment.
