Default HOW MANY IS TO MANY??

How many miles are to many?? A friend of mine is looking at a 2000 SP 500 it has about 1067 miles on it. I know its probably not a lot but at what point do you have to start making repairs or do problems start. I'm sure if a quad is well maintained it should be able to take thousands of miles. Once a quad reaches 1000 miles does anything have to be done to the motor to keep it going strong?? Thanks for the info.

Hmm its just broke in motor wise, suspension usually breaks in about 500-1000 more. Just change the oil when it is bought. usually about 4000 miles or so you will want to do breaks and maybe clutch reworked and possibly a new belt. all depends for breaks though, I rely on the ebs alot to slow down so my pads at 4500 are almost done for. Tire wise those tires last along time, my back tires are still like new yet the front are worn alot compared to the rears, fronts wore because of dirt roads and some pavement. Usually the speedos go but all depends on those, some peoples speedos have never failed ithers have at 300 miles. other than that just keep oil in it and change it, keep up all other fluids aswell and it will last a very long time. Hope this helps, Brian

It all depends on how it was ridden. I have almost 1000 miles on my X2 that I bought at the end of March so 1067 miles isn't much.
If it was 1000 miles of thick mud and water riding then things like u-joints and wheel bearings could be wearing out due to the water exposure for 5 or 6 years. If it was just used for mild trail riding/ hunting then there's probably nothing wrong with it (As far as common problems). That's the gamble of buying a used quad. It's nice to know the history of the quad. Do they have oversize tires? Check for play in the u-joints. Check the wheel bearings by rocking the wheels back and forth. The motor should be fine. Not sure what else to check for, but I am sure others will help out.

Bart323,

I have a 2000 Sportsman 500 and its hands down been the best machine ever! It starts right up in 2 seconds and runs great. Its not as fast as a HO but it will go anywhere I take it. It has about 1000 miles on it. Like others are saying here not even broke in yet!
