what oil to use

i'd use an oil for atv's even if it doesn't have a wet clutch. Atv's make more power per displacement than cars. They usuially have more compression, and usually sit in storage more than cars. JMO because I know it's hard to get any warranty money out of the dealers.

I recently changed my oil and tranny fluid and went with the Mobil 1 0w40. It was the only 0w40 Napa had in Mobile1 which listed it for European performance cars. Put the same fluid in both the crankcase and transmission and I have had no problems for the first few hours of use.

I like the AMSOIL atv specific 0W40. I have it in 2 or my 3 quads they both have CVTs. The 3rd is a kazuma and it uses a splash oil system and requires a thicker oil so I run AMSOIL 10-40W motorcycle oil in that. Is also has semi auto trans.

Do a search on oil here and listen to Rangerrecon's advice. Dont use anything with MOLEY in it. If your going to use mobile 1 then use Mobile 1 MX4T which has no moley and is made for atvs and motorcycles.

If you have a Polaris without a wet clutch any good synthetic oil will work as good or better than the Polaris oil.
It will also work fine in the trans as good or better than the Polaris trans fluid.
In fact the majority of the good name brand synthetic motor oils designed for cars is better than the Polaris oil.
I use and reccomend the Castrol Syntec 5w50 for both the engine and trans but Moblie One or Amzoil is about the same. I would use them if I could not buy the Castrol.
If I had to use the Polaris oil I would change it twice as often as I do the Castrol. It tends to break down quickly.
