Default 04 500 Electrical problem

I was on a few hour ride the other day.. Thankfully toward the end of the day, my electronic dash (RPM, Milage, ect) would die out and then come back.. Sometimes die out(shut off) for 20-30 seconds, sometime 2 seconds.. Then it would work again for a few min, then die out again.. Any ideas on this one? No deep water but plenty of mud and shallow water..

Even more important when that dash goes out do you think I am loosing 4WD as well.. I though about stopping and testing it on the ride but that I figured I just better keep goinging and get it back to the trailer.. Is it possibly the two electrical posts/connections next to the battery shorting or something.. Thanks guys

Sounds like a broken or shorted wire going to the speedometer. Check for battery voltage (with key on) btw the red & brown and red/white & brown wires going to the speedometer while lightly tugging on different parts of the harness. If you don't have constant power, you've got a harness problem somewhere.

As for the AWD, if the speedometer goes out, you lose AWD.

Default 04 500 Electrical problem

Went for a short ride today, nothing like last weeks and had no problems.. I then went home and washed off the quad squirting water everywhere I can and the dash stayed on.. I will take it apart and move around some wires.. Thank you..

Anyone else have any other advise??

i think they still had some 20A relays in 2004-- there use to be 2 under the front cab and one near the battery. if this is "tripping" it will caust your electrical devices to come on and go off as you have described. They are $6 at advance auto last i checked.

Found the circuit breakers and boy does one get hot.. Im assuming this is the problem.. It has two posts on the top of the breaker so im guessing with some work I can pull them off.. Any idea on the specks of this breaker.. Amps, ect, there is no writing on it at all.. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys, you saved me a trip to the dealer..

Im looking at my wiring diagram in the service manual.. There is one 10amp and one 20amp breaker that I see.. Can't tell which is the one i need. Looks like the 10amp feeds the fan, the taps off into the fan motor which then has the low beams tapped in and on and on.. The 20amp looks like it starts to feed the left handlebar assembly then I kinda lose it from there..

Again im loosing my instument cluster.. Thanks guys

I picked up a 20amp breaker at advanced auto parts.. Thanks for the recommendation.. The connectors are a little different so I need to do a little sodering of the wires.. Hope I have the right amp breaker..
