What do you mean by the emission's document? And yes i expect Polaris to be coming out with their "760" again, but it wouldnt suprise me one bit to see them come out with a true 800. Alot of signs are pointing to it. But anyhow, if they dont come out with a true 800, i'll try and get a good deal on an '06.. So you like your's? How do you like it compared to you're 500? hahaha.

There was a post on here that had a link to some documents and I think they were for Polaris to California emissions approval and they contained such info as model and displacement.

The 800 is awesome! After being used to the 500 for several years now and riding the 800, its just so much better. For one just the atv itself has improved so much since 98. The 800 steers so much easier than the 500. That and the fact that the motor is so much peppier make the 800 seem so much lighter than the 500, although it actually weighs a little more. Even though it's a big utility quad it feels very light, sporty, and nimble. Friends of ours actually got a barely used 04 700 that I rode a week or so ago and it felt a little better than the 500, but the 800 just feels like a whole new ball game. I'm anxious to get more seat time this upcoming weekend to get a better feel for it.

even if it dosnt get a new motor, it could end up dropping 100 pounds and be faster than teh BRP800, you never know

I just don't think you are going to see that happening this year. First, it would take a change in corporate policy. Polaris has opted for strong, and therefore heavy, frame and chassis components to make the Sportsman grounded as a workhorse. The corporate policy has been to keep the strong chassis, and therefore the weight and longevity, and use the motor size increases to address the speed and power market without losing the durability. It has worked as is evident by Polaris' overwhelming market share up to now. However, increasing the upper end size motor in the line has a point where the benefits are outweighed by the detriments (and again this is a corporate policy issue that deals with far more factors than our individual concerns). For the corporate policy to move it is going to take a significant loss in market share and since the BRP/Can-Am is relatively new and its longer term effect is yet to be seen and yamaha even with the lighter chassis has not really challenged Polaris' numbers of units sold with kawa and suzy relatively the same the market share impact is not yet present to move what Polaris feels is a proven and marketable commodity. Polaris will concentrate their "innovations" this year on other less risky models at this point and will wait to see if their utility share is impacted this year. Heck I'm hoping I'm wrong but in a couple of weeks we will know. Until then my 800 is it and I'm not really complaining.

i see what your saying. They have a contract. And why mess up what works? Why build a new big bore motor? Why drop the weight? .......... Well, first off, we've already seen the article about Polaris commenting on making the weight comparable to the 4x4 hawkeye. Second, i think dropping the weight and keeping the 760 is a great idea for betting handling, better top speed, etc without having to build a new motor. OR just keep the weight and add another, bigger engine. I still dont see it as being a shock if Polaris comes out with a new 800cc motor or whatever the plan to do. But reguardless of what they do, i see alot of changes coming up this year, and i think it will be a very interesting year.

Im not sure but is polaris suposse to have a new front end? And what do you guys think polaris is doing the most work on utilty or sport

JJonJon,

As for a bigger motor that issue is just about dead this year. Every year Polaris has to provide the California Air Resources Board (CARB) emissions tests from each engine/model they intend to produce and sell in California. The CARB website publishes that info and for 2007 Polaris only lists the 760cc engine which it identifies as being in the 800 efi spt and the x2. There is no larger engine listed. The only remote possibility is that they have a larger engine and it has not yet attained the emissions standards set by CARB and Polaris will amend their filing later or a larger engine will not be sold in CA. Both these scenarios are HIGHLY unlikely but theoretically possible. If Polaris desired to lose weight where would they do it? Obviously using aluminum components in the chassis would be a target but Polaris has been reluctant to sacrafice the strength and durability of steel to lose weight. A double control arm front suspension would possibly trim some weight but it again would take aluminum to make it significant and may reduce suspension travel as the upper control arm has to go somewhere. They may be forced to do it if their contract with MacPherson is not renewed but corporate loves that strut suspension.

polaris quads usually arnt available for purchase till late october and november, so if polaris pops out a new motor they still have several months before its released

Didn't Arctic Cat do this too. They released the Prowler 650 but didn't have it available in CA until it passed the CARB tests. It was being sold everywhere else though.
