Default Predator intake options / performance (any information)

Hey guys,

Well in light of there not being a 525 Pred this season... i think i'll hang on to the nemesis and just wait until next year (unless it breaks down severely again... now that i'm out of waranty...) Question is this: I've heard of using a cool air civic intake, Nicholas cycle suposedly makes an intake, and i know Spyder6 uses a Scrambler / Sportsman 500 Clamp-on filter... which of these setups would provide the best OVERALL power delivery? That is, does the clamp-on make for a real pipey motor? also how many horse can you gain this way? if rejetting up to a 175 from the factory 150 is the proper jetting, that's 17% more fuel, so i'd assume you can get at least 3-5 horsepower this way? Thanks a lot for any information anyone has on what intake setup is the best. Also: Outerwears are essentially water proof, so purchassing one of those w/ a whatever i get should provide at least as much protection as the factory box, if not more correct? thanks again!

With your setup already......I'd suggest the Twin Air clamp on filter and both(or atleast one) of the nicholas cycle carb mods. You can't go wrong with those mods.....pure power and responsiveness. I don't know the hp numbers....but most everyone is going this route. There are cheaper routes(as you've listed).....but eventually everyone tries to end up here.

The twin air is by far the best, cuz it has a little length in the boot(just the right length too)...so the carb can have some suck...and it also gives a bit of torque too, I think. There is a lot of stuff to know about these filters, and how they go about hooking them up to the carb(boot lenght)...all of which nicholas has tested many times. I do suggest the outerware too.....as I run one. You'll also need some bel-ray filter oil(he sells it too).......

I highly suggest the carb mods, as you can probably remember. Many have finally went with it, with no complaints whatsoever. Unless you plan to go with a bigger, better carb....this is your best mod(and I'm talking a nice $500 one). He jets it too, to your mods and your climate/elevation.

Hope this helped some.

your best intake option is useing the style i have, a filter clamped onto the carburator, however, you'll get alot better luck power wise if you send your carb to Nicholas Cycle and have him do his Race work on it and buy the Twin-Air setup. i think with his setup he uses a 200 main jet (25% increase if my math is correct over stock)

with my setup (Dynojet Jetkit 175 main, K&N on the carb throat, WhiteBrothers E-series with the quiet core and a highflow turndown tip) i have good results, though what i want to do is to have the race work done on my carb, Rath racing headpipe, and put an E2 exhuast on, and a new cam. im not going to get into any engine work unless i get a 450/525 predator

heres some pics

the intake is in such a position that its exeptionally hard for water to get to it, ive ridden through everything that i would have with an airbox and it didnt get wet at all, though some thanks goes to the pre-filter for protection. my exhuast tip has changed colors in the summer heat though, like how stainless steel changes colors when it is exposed to heat. its actually pretty good looking.

P.S. my K&N was actually a leftover for my Sportsman 800

So Spyder and I are in agreement about the nicholas carb work....its great, trust me....but also expensive(worth every penny though). I don't agree with him though, with the filter setup that he has as being "the best intake option".....the twin air is pretty much the best out there, for the pred.....especially with the carb work done. Like I said...it has just the right amount of "throat" before reaching the filter....to give the perfect performing intake. I definately would not do any other mods(engine wise)....without doing both of these mods. Doug will agree......as he also sells rath intakes(far more expensive), etc..
