How to get screws out of float bowl?
#1
OK, so how do you get screws out of a carb float bowl so you can change the jets? This is on my Hawkeye, i managed to partially strip each of the screws without making them move at all. Do they have loktite on them? Are you supposed to heat up the area around the screws to make the metal expand and loktite come loose?

if you dont have a impact driver you can take a small center punch, one that will fit in the center of the cross, and tap it pretty hard with a hammer. as spyder6 said a impact driver is best.

Float bowl screws are notoriously soft. The tried and true Vise Grips seem to work well, you may need to use the smaller needle nose type. I replaced mine with hexhead screws.

If you use a ACR Philips bit or driver, they come out with out rounding. Those bits have ribs to grip the philips slot, and wont cam out. Even if they are somewhat rounded, itll still get them out.

The impact screwdriver is the way to go, I just had the carb off my Hawkeye last week and one tap on the driver loosened them right up without any damage. Corrosion between the aluminum and steel screw is why they are so tight, add some anti-seize compund to the threads when reassembling to eliminate future problems...

Is it corrosion? I know everytime I have ever taken a float off those little screws are TIGHT! There is a white substance in small amounts on the threads, I always was thinking it was some form of loc-tite, but I suppose corrosion is pretty logical. I still say switch those screws out though. Hopefully you will never have to clean out your float bowl trailside(I have) and I sure didn't have any impact driver to do it with.

Yes, I use vice grips......and mine came right out.......but to put them back in, go to home depot(or lowes) and get some alan headed screws that are the same thread....if you ask on www.predatorowners.com they will tell you the right bolt size and thread.
