Default scrambler problems help

mounting the motor was a piece of cake it boltes right in the frame. all you have to do us fabricate a top motormount. it is easey, all i did is cut a piece of angle iron that is 2" inches long and weld it to the frame. it took me about 5 minnutes at the most to do it. if you don't have a welder you can bolt it on.

if i had to do it again(500 motor swap) i would just buy a 500 scrambler. it would be so much easier to do. it would also cost less. there are tons of parts that i had to buy that i didn't know about. a few of them are, engine, carb, all cables, all clutches, clutch covers, shifter, oil tank, wire harness, cdi, rev, box, reverse speed limiter, motormounts, belt, fuel tank, fuel pump, starter silinoid, exhaust, and a few others. it would be easy of you had a wrecked 500 scrambler to take from, or an 500 sportsman (H.O for power)or even a ranger. if i hade one of those it would be a fun project.

the reason that it isn't finished it that i can't figure out the wiring up the cdi box to the rest of the harnes. hope this helps. Jason

Default scrambler problems help

actually i don't know if there is a wire or not that i need. i found everything else that i need to make it run but the piece that connects the black box to the rest of the wiring harness. i have never seen anything for sale that connects the two together. the black box has a clip on it that has about 6 prongs inside it, it is supose to conect to the wiring harness some how. if somebody has or knows someone that has a 400 500 sportsman/ranger, or a 500 scrambler if they can find out how the CDI box connects to the rest of the harness. a picture would be helpful, but just decribing the part would be very helpful also to me. Thanks, Jason

a scrambler 400 has an old style 150 watt coil and a non-digital iginition. (no crank trigger) so the cdi box is a different unit you need a 500 cdi box and maybe coil as well.

If you have the 500 harness & 500 CDI box, there should be a plug for it in the harness. It may be hiding behind something --- when it's all wrapped in black loom or tape, it's easy to miss.

I've done a few harness swaps on sport bikes. It's usually the last one that's a bitch to find.
