ok, things to check. first look on the back side of the rad where the fan is. does it have any mud at all? if so then your going to wan trto take the fan out at least so you can get behind the fan shroud. by pressure washing(carefully not to bend the fins) even that doesnt work on just one side. the fans do run alot on twins and they do run hot. does your collant level rise or come out the res.tank when you ran it hot, that is the sign of over heating. as far as air in the system i would doubt after 1,000 miles it would have it in there but you can release the rad cap to the first notch not allowin git to build presasure helps to purg the air out if any. it the waterpump wasnt working it wouldnt take very long to overheat. it might be the temostat is stuck closed not letting it circulate causing it to overheat, but again this wouldnt take very long. first thing i would want to know is how long does it run before it starts to overheat?

He only pressure washed it but didn't take it off and look at it. Can't really get to it very well cause the winch housing is in the way. But I will print this and let him read them so he can take it apart and really clean it well. AND YES it has been threw some SERIOUS MUD it's entire time here. Month after month. I mean SERIOUS DEEP HEAVY CLAY MUD... Might be the problem eh? hahah thanks guys..

It only runs a few minutes. Maybe 5 . Then the fan kicks on and when you shut it down it blinks hot , then if you keep riding it it blinks hot CHECK ENGINE. We took the cap off and the coolant was right at the top. We will try to clean the radiator good today. It's just hard to get to due to the winch housing there in the front. I'm afraid if we keep using it it will blow it up or crack something in the motor due to excessive heat. It gets so hot you could burn your leg on the side after only a few minutes of riding. I appreciate all you guys ideas. This is our first ATV and we are doing alot of work with it after just building a new house with lots of land. Thanks again

mustang, i hate to say it but if you guys have been riding this in deep mud and really never cleaned the rad real good on both sides you going to have to take it out and clean it. trust me on this you CAN NOT clean it good enough by pressure washing thru the front. i also have a 3000 lb winch in front and cant really get a good shot at it. if you look at the back (engine side) thru the fan blades you'll probly still see mud. my suggestion would be to take it all apart and clean it right. if you do a serch on this problem you will see its pretty common for people like us that run through the mud. its part of playing, the cleaning part that is. i my self am looking into buying/making an on the trail washer system for the radaitors as we all run hard thru the mud and all have the same issues. kawasaki and polaris, so its not just one brand that does it.

We just checked a bit ago and there is TONS of mud caked on the back side of the rad. We will take it apart this week and clean it the right way. It was ok tonight must be because it's chilly outside. We only use it to transport wood in the trailer to the wood pile so it was ok. If you ride it more than a few minutes it heats up. We will take it apart this week , first rainy day when we can't work. haha .. Thanks again and I will keep you posted. I really appreciate it.

Hi, we took it out and the radiator was PACKED with mud. My son cleaned it all good and it was better but the fan was still coming on alot, it only blinked hot check engine after riding it for a while in mud again. So we are back to square one with it and have to take the rad out again and clean it all good. Is there something you can do to make it easier to clean it while still in the machine? Its a pain to take out with the winch there and stuff...
